LAS VEGAS (AP)—Deonta Vaughn had 19 points and six assists as Cincinnati fought off UNLV for a 67-65 victory at the Global Sports Classic on Saturday.
The Bearcats led by six points with seven minutes to play, but UNLV went on a 13-5 run to grab a 59-57 advantage with 4:39 left.
Cincinnati (5-1) answered with consecutive 3-pointers from Alvin Mitchell and a short jumper from Mike Williams to retake the lead at 65-59. The Bearcats hung on late as UNLV only made 2-of-6 free throws in the final 16 seconds.
Yancy Gates had 16 points and seven rebounds and Dion Dixon added 13 points for the Bearcats.
Tre’Von Willis had 18 points and five assists, while Joe Darger had 18 points for UNLV on six 3-pointers, all of which came in the second half.
