Warhawks set to tangle with Tigers

MONROE, La. - Following a two-game road swing, the ULM men’s basketball team returns to Monroe on Tuesday night (Nov. 24) as it hosts Grambling State at Fant-Ewing Coliseum at 7:30 p.m. The contest will be the second game of a doubleheader as the ULM women host Centenary at 5:15 p.m.

The Warhawks (2-2) are coming off a thrilling, 74-73 victory at Morehead State on Saturday (Nov. 21). Senior guard Tony Hooper hit a 15-foot jumper with 0.8 seconds left in the game to give ULM the win over Morehead State.

Hooper leads ULM in scoring, averaging 15.5 points per contest, he is the only Warhawk to score in double-figures in all four games this season.

Grambling comes to Monroe with a 1-2 record, having fallen in its last contest, at Marquette, 87-41, on Saturday (Nov. 21). Ariece Perkins is leading the Tigers in scoring, averaging 17.0 points per game. Last season, the Tigers finished with a 6-23 record.

Tuesday’s contest will be the 10th all-time meeting between the Warhawks and Tigers, with ULM currently holding a 6-3 lead in the series. ULM and Grambling State have not met since Dec. 10, 1999, a 79-76 win for ULM. Six of the previous nine meetings have taken place in Monroe; ULM has a 5-1 record in those contests.

ULM is beginning a stretch of three-straight against in-state opposition, playing Grambling State on Tuesday, at Centenary on Friday and hosting Louisiana Tech on Dec. 2.
