NEW ORLEANS — When Baylor staved off Old Dominion's upset bid on Saturday evening, more was on the line than just a berth in the Sweet 16.
Also at stake was a pre-game wager Bears guard Tweety Carter made.
When Old Dominion band member Chris Hayes razzed Carter about his trademark flat top haircut as he warmed up an hour before tip-off, he approached the baritone player and challenged him to cut his hair in the same way if the Bears won. In return, Carter agreed to shave his head if Baylor lost, sealing the bet with a fist bump and promising Hayes with a smile, "I'm going to hold you to that."
"I was just having fun with him," Carter said after the game. "He was having a, uh, conversation with me, so I was just messing with him."
Carter bounced back from a sluggish first-round game to score 10 of his 12 points in the first half and dish out eight assists, hitting LaceDarius Dunn for a trio of alley-oops and finding lumbering center Josh Lomers on the low block for a couple layups.
So now will Hayes hold up his end of the wager? Old Dominion students, if one of your peers shows up to class on Monday morning with a haircut looking like rapper Lil' Boosie, you'll know the answer is yes.
