Raptors Team Report

Yahoo! Sports - Nov 23, 2:57 am EST

The Raptors are an OK team at the moment and eventually might be a good one, but their most glaring failure always seems to jump up and bite them.

And it's no mystery to anyone who watches them closely: They tend to take stretches of games off. And while they've had some excellent comebacks to win games early this season, they will never realize their potential until the work hard for entire games.

It's a fact not lost on the players, either.

"We just have to finish games and play all 48," said point guard Jose Calderon. "I know it sounds like I'm saying the same thing, but this is what it is.

"We play sometimes, one quarter, two quarters. We need 48 (minutes). It's tough without it to beat these good teams."

But those mistakes -- faulty ball movement on offense, the inability to get the crucial stop on defense -- is what separates Toronto from the upper echelon of the conference.

MAGIC 104, RAPTORS 96: Chris Bosh was held to 22 points and Andrea Bargnani was limited to 26 minutes before fouling out as Toronto fell to Orlando for the second time this season. Toronto held Dwight Howard to only 17 points and their defense forced the Magic to just 9-for-32 from 3-point range, but one of the league's most potent offenses couldn't get untracked.

  • Toronto fans continue to vociferously boo Vince Carter every time he touches the ball in any game he plays in Toronto—they're still angry that Carter asked the Raptors to trade him five years ago. "I don't know why they are booing me, to be honest with you," he said.

  • The Raptors drew only 17,233 fans to a Sunday matinee against Eastern Conference rival Orlando. It's the second time they've played the Magic at home this season, and twice they've had less than capacity audiences. It's uncommon because Toronto averaged more than 19,000 fans per game last season.

Quote To Note:

"We have to be a little bit more fluid in our offense. Sometimes we just hold the ball a little bit too much, and we make things a little bit easier for the other team."

—Point guard Jose Calderon.

Rotation:

Starters—Point guard Jose Calderon, Shooting guard DeMar DeRozan, Small forward Hedo Turkoglu, Power forward Chris Bosh, Center Andrea Bargnani. Bench—Guard Jarrett Jack, Forward Sonny Weems, Forward-Center Amir Johnson, Forward Pops Mensah-Bonsu, Guard Marcus Banks, Center Rasho Nesterovic, Center Patrick O'Bryant.

Player Notes:

  • C Andrea Bargnani missed out on extending his career-best streak of double-double games to three when he had 11 points and nine rebounds against Orlando. He had had at least 10 and 10 in each of his two previous outings.

  • G Jarrett Jack, who made two key 3-pointers in Toronto's win over Miami on Friday, followed that with another impressive game Sunday. Despite sharing much of his time on the court with Jose Calderon and Hedo Turkoglu, he finished with a season-best 11 assists.

  • F Amir Johnson continues to impress in a backup role with the Raptors. Providing energy and athleticism off the bench, he had a season-high 14 points and eight rebounds, three offensive, in a losing cause against Orlando.

Medical Watch:

  • G Marco Belinelli (groin) sat out Sunday's loss to Orlando and is day-to-day.

  • G-F Antoine Wright (ankle) sat out Sunday's game against Orlando and is being listed as day-to-day.

  • F Reggie Evans (sprained left foot) missed the last two weeks of the preseason and remains on the shelf. A return date is unknown.
