Davis has been frustrated while watching his teammates play to a 10-4 record: "It's tough to watch the games, knowing that you can help, knowing that you could be the deciding factor of the game,'' he said.

Davis is supposed to get his cast off on Dec. 2 and he'll have to do a little more rehabbing before he can get back into a game and do something with that frustration.

The Wizards have played 12 games together this season but it doesn't appear that the 3-9 squad is getting any closer. Instead, it seems the team is moving apart irreparably. Just after the game Brendan Haywood(notes) was saying ego was getting in the way of the Wizards winning any games.

And even though Gilbert Arenas(notes) has stopped blogging, it appears he has no problem still letting the world know his feelings. He took the blame as a leader: "The NBA's a ship. It's going to keep moving. Teams are not waiting for us," Arenas said. "As the captain, I've got to steer my ship. If I've got to steer it to land until everybody wants to jump on, then I'm going to do it. . . . And we'll see who comes and follows. If nobody wants to follow, then the boat's just going to keep moving."

As he was talking, Haywood reportedly walked by and started singing Beyoncé's "Ego."

It's not looking good for the Wizards this season.

First it was reported that center Emeka Okafor(notes) was on the block and then another report came that pretty much the whole team was on the block except for Chris Paul(notes). Neither story was apparently true, according to the New Orleans Times-Picayune.

Team execs tell the paper that nobody on the team is getting moved right now. When the February trading deadline comes, things could be a lot different but the team apparently wants to stick with this group for a little bit and see what it can do.

He and coach Rick Adelman then apparently had an "emotional and sometimes loud" meeting about what the plan is for McGrady. The meeting supposedly kicked off with McGrady slamming the door shut.

McGrady is apparently feeling recovered from the microfracture surgery on his left knee and wanted to hear straight from Adelman - not Rockets general manager Daryl Morey or trainer Keith Jones - about his plan for McGrady, who apparently has to wait to play till at least next week when he will get another MRI to see if everything looks healed up.

Earlier this week, Knicks prez Donnie Walsh said it was a long shot but he must be liking what he's hearing and seeing of Iverson because a deal is supposedly imminent. There are other sources to NBA.com that are saying the deal isn't so close to happening and the 2-9 Knickerbockers are still looking at the plusses and minuses of signing Iverson.

But what do the Knicks have to lose? They've blown a lot more money on far worse players to try and inject some energy into this losing franchise. Then again, the last thing this team needs is another diva who is going to fill up gossip pages rather than the basket.

Someone associated with the team apparently told the paper, "It's a given. They're going to make the biggest play for him." Who else would at this point? Iverson was a big distraction instead of a savior for his last two teams, the Detroit Pistons and Memphis Grizzlies, so not too many other teams are clamoring for his services, except apparently the Miami Heat. One of Iverson's pals told the New York Daily News that the team is "hot" after Iverson.

The struggling Knicks have no other way of injecting any talent into their team chemistry so might as well give it a shot and see what happens. What can it hurt? They can always do what the Grizzlies did and put him on waivers.

He reportedly has a partially torn ligament in his left wrist and only miss four or five weeks if the wrist isn't in terrible shape. But if he needs to have screws put in, his whole season is likely lost. "I'm going into it, assuming it will be a big surgery," Bell said. "If I wake up and it's not, it's icing on the cake."

Golden State apparently knew about Bell's scenario when it made the trade that finally cleared Stephen Jackson(notes) out of California.

Head coach Mike D'Antoni didn't seem overly excited about the prospect of signing the 34-year-old guard who has been put on waivers by the Memphis Grizzlies. "He's been a force in this league for God knows how long," D'Antoni said. "I'm not taking anything away from him. At the same time, there's a lot of organization stuff to talk about."

Still, the team will do pretty much anything to dig itself out of its 1-9 worst start of all time.

Isn't now the time to a few Greek teams to say they'd take Iverson in a heartbeat?

Even with the disappearance of Stephen Jackson(notes) and Acie Law(notes) to the Charlotte Bobcats in exchange for Raja Bella and Vladimir Radmanovic(notes), Nelson is apparently not very excited about coaching Monta Ellis(notes) and all the other young guys on the team. But there is one big thing supposedly holding him back from calling it quits: Lenny Wilkens.

Nelson has to win 21 more games to break the NBA all-time wins record that Wilkens now holds. Once Nelson has that under his big belt, there's not much incentive to stay on board.

So the expectation is that if he can feel that he's getting closer to that goal on a consistent enough basis, Nelson will stay till he sets a new record and then go home.

The Celts would end up with Andres Nocioni(notes) out of the deal while Kenny Thomas, Tony Allen(notes), and Brian Scalabrine(notes) would be unpacking their bags in the City of Brotherly Love, and Dalembert and J.R. Giddens(notes) would be headed to the Sacramento Kings.

The conversations are supposedly "ongoing." This is at least keeping a few assistant general managers very busy.

The Grizzlies were unhappy with Iverson's griping and have waived Iverson and he is set to become a free agent on Wednesday. Iverson was displeased with his playing time once he finally came back from an injury. Meanwhile, the Knicks have been less than excited about the work of current point guard Chris Duhon(notes), who head coach Mike D'Antoni thought was going to help turn his team around before Duhon got to New York at the start of last season.

Knicks president Donnie Walsh is saying that the Knicks will at least look into signing Iverson. He remains doubtful but is at least leaving open the possibility: "Right now, I'd say probably not but we'll see," he said.

The rumor is, of course, that the 34-year-old Iverson would absolutely love to be playing for the Knicks, where he would likely get a lot of attention.

But when will Iverson learn that attention can be a bad thing sometimes, too?

The Toronto Sun has it that the Miami Heat are hoping to re-sign Dwyane Wade and have enough dough left over to snag both LeBron James and Chris Bosh. That little plan has apparently not just been a little fantasy in the team's front offices. The three players have supposedly been in on the concept and have talked about the possibility. James and Wade are certainly pals and would like to play together again if the Cavs somehow don't satisfy the wishes of James.

Still, it is very hard to imagine James leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers, though it is very easy to imagine Bosh leaving the Toronto Raptors.

Coach Phil Jackson is apparently saying that Gasol has gone five days without pain and that he's been out on the court for "light" workouts. The team is supposedly ready for him to try the hamstring out against some actual contact.

Lakers fans are surely thinking that it would be nice to have the 18.9 points per game he averaged last year back in the lineup.

The word yesterday, according to Yahoo! Sports' Adrian Wojnarowski, was that it would take three weeks to a month to get Paul back into game shape. The injury came Friday night in a game against the Portland Trail Blazers and Paul didn't travel Saturday to help take on the Atlanta Hawks.

"Chris' absence changes things quite a bit as far the contributions of everyone on the floor," Bower said. The Hornets are already 3-8 and this isn't going to make things any easier for them.

James will be wearing No. 6 next season, wherever he ends up. He reportedly wants every player in the league to give up No. 23 out of respect for Jordan. "I just think what Michael Jordan has done for the game has to be recognized some way soon," James said. "There would be no LeBron James, no Kobe Bryant(notes), no Dwyane Wade(notes) if there wasn't Michael Jordan first."

This, of course, equates to massive jersey sales next summer when James takes on his new number. The NBA should just give James some kind of bonus right now for the amount of cash he's about to bring the league.

"I felt like, maybe somebody would have at least consulted with me and asked how I felt before it happened," Paul told the paper. "It's not to get my approval, but we feel we should know about the decision before it takes place."

Paul is ready to play for the fella who formally only wore the hat of general manager for the Hornets, Jeff Bower, but he'll miss the "open line of communication" he had with Scott.

It sounds like he's pretty comfortable communicating with anybody.

So the Knicks are apparently adjusting their expectations for next summer. There is no doubt the team will make an initial run at James and Wade but the word is that the Knicks are feeling like it is much more likely they'll end up with Toronto Raptors forward Chris Bosh(notes) and Atlanta Hawks guard Joe Johnson(notes), who are also both free agents next summer, according to the New York Daily News.

This is still a good combo and a far sight better than what the Knicks have been putting on the floor recently.

Johnson at least has a long-time relationship with Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni, who he played for years ago. "More than anything he gave me a chance, he gave me a chance to play and just play free - and kind of blossom from there. He's a great coach," Johnson said.

Wade did tell the paper "it really could'' happen, but wouldn't bet on it. "It's something we've talked about, of course,'' Wade said of playing together. "No question, it's a long shot. He's put in position in Cleveland where he has the opportunity to compete for a championship now. I'm in Miami, where I've won a championship and this is where I love to be. So it's not like we're both looking over our shoulders saying we want to get out of here. So it's a long shot. But at the end of the day, it is a shot.''

If it happens, it's more likely to happen in Miami where the team has more salary space available than the Cavs.

And now this.

He was put on the inactive list against the Orlando Magic as apparent punishment for supposedly missing the team plane down there, according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

He apparently missed a flight earlier in the season as well. Coach Mike Brown said West had been excused for missing the flight, but another source on the team says that is bogus.

West apparently doesn't like to fly and often has to be calmed down before flights, according to the paper. His fear has supposedly led to some delayed flights over the last few years as well.

He'll likely be in tonight's game against the Miami Heat. And his court case for the guitar-case incident is coming up on Nov. 20. He could face a fine of $2,500 or a three- to five-year visit to prison.

But Heat owner Mickey Arison is apparently expecting that Wade will stay in Miami and keep on fighting the good fight there, according to the Fort Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel. "I have every indication from Dwyane that this is where he wants to be," Arison said. "He loves Miami. He'd like to spend his whole career.

"But the reality is I don't have a signature on a contract. Obviously we talked about an extension this summer. I was disappointed we couldn't come to an agreement, but that was Dwyane's right. . . Every indication I have is that this is where he wants to be."

Pat Riley's contract as president also finishes up next summer and Arison would be surprised if Riley goes anywhere else: "Pat can be here as long as he wants to be here. We haven't discussed it, but every indication I have it that he'd like to keep going."

Well, McGrady has adjusted his expectations. The guard is saying he was misunderstood, according to the Houston Chronicle. He just hopes to be playing by Nov. 18. "It's a target date," McGrady said. "I didn't say I was coming back; I said it was a target date, just like we have a date to have the MRI on the 23rd. Everybody is blowing it out of proportion like I'm guaranteed to come back. I want to play, so that's what we're targeting."

Rockets general manager Daryl Morey continues to stress that there is no timetable for T-Mac's return right now.

The second-year pro apparently injured himself against the New Orleans Hornets Saturday during a crushing 112-84 loss.

So add the six games hell miss to the ones rookie forward Blake Griffin(notes) (stress fracture in his left kneecap) and the Clips are looking pretty shorthanded right about now.

Jackson asked for a trade back in August and the team is apparently optimistic that a deal can get done for the veteran swingman in the next couple of weeks. Two of his current teammates told Spears that the team's morale and play won't likely improve until Jackson is handed his one-way plane tickets out of there.

If nothing else, Jackson can always go back and play for the Sydney Kings in Australia's National Basketball League.

The center for the 2-4 Warriors has actually got something called Osteitis Pubis. What is that? Oh, just an inflammation of the muscles that attach his right groin and abdominal muscles. Youch.

Biedrins will get another evaluation on Nov 23 so he'll get to miss a five-game road trip.

So who's telling the truth? Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said Monday that no timetable exists for T-Mac to play. He'll get a run-through at the next Rockets' full practice, which is Nov. 23.

But the 30-year-old McGrady told Adrian Wojnarowski and Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports via email that he was returning Nov. 18. He then wrote on his blog: "I have been practicing, training, and rehabbing hard for my return to the court. I'm in a good place mentally and my body feels ready to get back out there, so now I am just waiting on my doctors to give me the clearance to go ahead to play. I'm going full speed at practice and am not being held out of drills anymore. I'm hoping to get out there as soon as possible, and with everything that my doctors have been telling me, it sounds like that will be sooner rather than later."

It's not like the team isn't used to being without him. He wasn't practicing with the team for a long stretch due to a preseason hamstring injury. The 1-6 Grizzlies face the Portland Trail Blazers at home tonight and Iverson is not expected to be in the house.

He's been missing since last Saturday when he left the team for a supposed family matter after only playing three games for the team. And general manager Chris Wallace hasn't apparently spoken to Iverson since last weekend. It's not looking good for a quick return if there is a return at all.

"Iverson is a big part of this team and we're behind him, but we have to keep on pushing," forward Zach Randolph(notes) said. "I hope the fans continue to support us. We're working hard every day. We're really trying to pull this thing together." "

The likeliest scenario appears to be that Iverson will retire.

The 37-year-old's signing wouldn't mean that the Caps wouldn't have to pay him the salary he's owed but the $4.875 million hit to the salary cap would be erased. The Russian team would presumably pay the Capitals some dough for the joy of having Nylander aboard.

Nylander has been skating with Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League for the last month. But something is expected to change with his status today.

One of the knocks on Duhon has been poor leadership and he apparently tried to take a step up in that department about a week ago when he told MSG Network that players were "joking around" too much when in the layup line in practice. Well, that steamed up a few Knicks, apparently, and Al Harrington(notes) was one of them, according to the New York Post. So now D'Antoni has a team of guys annoyed with the point guard who already wasn't bringing it. It's going to be a long season.

Wonder if team bigwig Donnie Walsh is regretting not signing Ramon Sessions(notes) this off-season. Walsh wouldn't do it because he supposedly didn't want to tie up any money for next summer when everybody and their brother becomes a free agent, particularly LeBron James(notes), Chris Bosh(notes), Dwyane Wade(notes), and Amare' Stoudemire.

The guy who was the second overall pick in last year's draft and had to go to rehab this past summer to help him handle the pressure is apparently having trouble playing full games so the team isn't allowing him to touch the floor in the fourth quarter.

His defense, focus, and foul trouble are all parts of the problem, according to the Miami Herald, and head coach Erik Spoelstra has been trying to find a way to help him through it, including lots of talks and a one-on-one practice on a day when everybody else had off.

Iverson has let the team know he wants to be spending more time on the floor during games but there just aren't enough minutes in the game to distribute to the aging Iverson. Now he's left the team but the owner Michael Heisley is saying that the absence has nothing to do with the disagreement and it's a totally separate personal matter, according to ESPN.

"I'm not going to get into the personal reason but it has nothing to do with the other stuff," Heisley said. "I'm the guy who said he could go. It's a real family issue that I don't think should be reported."

Of course that family issue could be the Iversons getting together to talk about Allen's lack of playing time.

It remains to be seen whether Iverson will simply separate from the team personally. The problem for him is that there don't seem to be any teams that will bring him onboard and start him. And obviously that doesn't sit well with him.

So the word on the street now is that Iverson is considering retirement, according to the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

However, the rumors coming out about K-Mart's MRI is that there is no fracture and he'll be day-to-day with a bruised left fibula. "I feel better today than I did yesterday," Martin said Saturday. "I've broken the fibula twice in my right leg, and that's the way (the injury first) felt. . . . But I can tolerate playing. I'm not worried, man."

The team gets suspended guard J.R. Smith(notes) back on Tuesday when it goes up against the Chicago Bulls.

Once folks in Cleveland were scared of this idea. Then they scoffed at it as the Knicks became the butt of jokes on late-night TV and in the arena. But now New York is starting to concern them again because Mr. LeBron James has said that he will consider any and all comers and that he has not ruled out moving to New York, according to the New York Post.

James has apparently said that when the free-agency window gets thrown open on July 1 next summer, he will be thinking like a businessman and considering what will be best for him and his family.

Sounds like he's thinking like a businessman already, starting to play chess with Cavs management through the media, making sure they know that this isn't a done deal. They've got to show him the dinero. Or someone else will.

That is, if you think the disgruntled Jackson is a prize. The Golden State Warriors have been trying to get rid of him since just before the season's start when it became very clear there was bad mojo brewing in this chemistry and it wasn't going to take long to explode.

The Cavs and Nuggets apparently are having trouble finding ways to absorb Jackson's long-term contract and also aren't finding the right combination of tradable assets. The Bobcats, however, seem to pressing forward and believing that it can get this deal done.

According to the ESPN, he'd like to try another one: playing in the NFL. The 6'9", 290-poiunder is saying it'll happen at some point: "I will try it," he said. "When I become an All-Star in the NBA, when I become a great player in the NBA, then I'll try football. One of my dreams has always been to play football."

He was reportedly an excellent two-way football player when he played in high school in Baton Rouge, La. His positions were defensive end, defensive tackle, and tailback. "I definitely could have made it to the NFL," Davis said and doesn't care which position he plays if a team wants to give him a chance. "It don't matter," he said. "I just want to play."

He apparently was told yesterday that he had one night to think about whether he wanted to have surgery on it and put a screw in to stabilize it, simply put it in a cast now and let it heal, or try to just play through the pain.

The cast option would mean being out for six to eight weeks and surely means he'll likely be out for eight weeks minimum.

So he supposedly turned off his phone early last night and went to bed and plans to have a decision today.

The consensus seemed to be that he would be packaged with forward Jason Maxiell(notes). But Dumars is saying ix-nay. The move was supposedly all about injuries. Dumars is saying that he's sick of new faces in his clubhouse and would like some stability.

But you'd think he'd be very happy to see a big-name free-agent "new face" next summer if he can free up some of that cash.

For a short while, it was believed that James would move to New York so he could dominate that city and expand his empire. But the New York Knicks have continued to implode, so there's no real attraction to leaving the comforts of home to attempt to right a quickly sinking ship. What everybody seems to think now is that James will eventually re-sign with the Cavs for a tidal wave of cash. But now comes another option: Move to the Los Angeles Lakers.

The Lakers don't have a lot of salary room but they'd love, love, love to team up Kobe Bryant(notes) and LeBron James, according to Bulls.com. The 31-year-old Bryant is going to need someone to pass along the keys to the Laker Mythologymobile. And why not the 24-year-old James? James doesn't seem afraid to take a strong supporting role, which would likely suit Bryant just fine.

But somehow L.A. has to convince Cleveland to do a sign-and-trade deal because there is no other way to fit James under its current salary structure right now. Still, that could mean a talented player for Cleveland instead of the big nothing it will get if James walks next summer.

It's looking like it's not going to hold the big guy up for much longer. He apparently had a "pretty good workout" yesterday. He'll miss his fifth game in a row tonight but he reportedly might be back in action on Friday against his former team, the Memphis Grizzlies.

Coach Phil Jackson isn't saying jack about it, though: "We'll see," he said. "We hope he can get a practice in this week."

In the negotiations, the team apparently addressed the issues and asked him to step it up on the personality front. "They just want to see it grow congruently with what the team's objectives are," said his agent. "They just said we'd like you to be more engaged, take more responsibility as a leader on and off the court. The message was heard and I don't think it's that big of an issue. He's understanding that.''

Iverson has returned to action with the Memphis Grizzlies after recovering from a partial left hamstring tear and did pretty well:11 points in 18 minutes against the Sacramento Kings.

Iverson was disappointed with the number of minutes played, according to FanHouse. "I had no problems (with the hamstring)," Iverson said afterward. "I had a problem with my butt from sitting on that bench so long. That's the only thing I got a problem with."

Some reporters before the game even suggested to Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins that Iverson should be starting, which he seemed to find ridiculous: "He hasn't even been with the team until just a couple of days ago," Hollins said. "He's going to come off the bench. He hasn't played all preseason, hasn't played the three regular-season games (leading up to Sacramento). He only practiced three days in training camp before he got hurt so there's no way I would trot him out there in a starting role."

It looks like it's going to be a long season fro Iverson and the Grizzlies.

According to the paper, a sonogram over the weekend showed a possible tear in his right hamstring. So he got some MRI tests done yesterday, which team docs will look at today. The news of a tear would not be a good thing for the Barcelona-born 7-foot forward/center.

Today is the deadline to sign such deals. Rondo's agent, Bill Duffy, apparently called Celtics president Danny Ainge to let him know that Rondo was happy to just become a restricted free agent next summer and not sign an extension since he and Rondo weren't thrilled with the offers that had come in from Boston. Ainge apparently told him right that they would give Rondo the cash he wanted, which is a different song than the team was singing this summer when Rondo's name was supposedly in trade talks and the team publicly worried about his "maturity."

"As much as we were willing to wait his contract out, the Celtics stepped up to the plate to meet the original request," Duffy said. "This is a really fair contract. We wanted him to be paid like one of the top five point guards around."

The veteran point guard is apparently getting a lot of interest around the NBA and one of the teams is supposedly the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to HoopsWorld.

The Cavs were considered the frontrunners to land the guy who has averaged 7.6 points and 3.4 assists over a 12-year career. But a bunch of new teams have apparently crowded into the scene and Daniels is discussing how many playing minutes he would likely get with each team as well as what his specific role would be.

"I think I should be in that range,'' he told the site. Of course, the Grizzlies haven't offered such a contract up till this point so Gay may lose this game of chicken. Gay's agent apparently told him there was a 50-50 chance that such a deal could be worked out. The agent, Jeff Austin, apparently was supposed to talk to the team last night.
