“LaMarcusPortland Trail Blazers GM Kevin Pritchard and the agent for star forward LaMarcus Aldridge(notes) have been negotiating since July 1 in an attempt to get a long-term extension done. It wasn't looking good that the pair would get anything done by the Oct. 1 deadline but things have apparently started to look better this week, according to the Oregonian.

"There has been movement," Pritchard told the paper. "But I don't want to get the cart before the horse because I want to do this right....I feel like we are moving toward a deal."

The 24-year-old Aldridge says his agent, Arn Tellem, also filled him in on progress this week. "Communication has picked up a lot," Aldridge said.

If they can't reach a deal by midnight on Halloween, Aldridge turns into a restricted free-agent pumpkin next July.

lol "star forward"? is this a joke?
a 6'11 guy, 2nd overall pick who averages 18-7 per year is not a star. he's a role player, a piece of the puzzle, but no star.
and no, dont give me crap about his upside. he averaged the exact same # for 2 years now. this is his ceiling.
a soft big man who doesn't rebound, get on the free throw line, block shots, or play defense. he settles for midrange jumpers all the time and his efficency (15.4 shots net only 18.2 points) is horrible for a guy his size.

you put ike diogu, brandon bass, channing frye, leon powe, glen davis, or paul millsap for the playing time this loser is getting, they would all put up similar or better numbers.
    aldridge is a joke.

I believe that is the October 31st deadline, not the October 1st deadline. Otherwise, we probably wouldn't be talking about this, would we?

golden eagle are you kidding? diogu? no, just no. bass? love his energy and intensity but inconsistent. frye? he was there and there's a reason he didn't get his playing time. glen davis and powe are ok but look a lot better playing with the big 3 in boston. milsap is nice though, i'll give you that one. blazers tried to sign him actually. but it takes time for big men to develop and grow into their size, and he is coming along. if oden was putting up the same numbers (which he would if he could EVER stay healthy), their front court would be unstoppable. hence the extension.

Way to go, dagoldeneagle. Boy, you sure know your stuff!
Then again, there WAS this guy named Scottie Pippen who had pretty similar offensive numbers. Oh, but he was probably a joke too, right?

Aldridge is a decent player and worth an extension, the problem is he wants a max contract equal to that of B. Roy. There is no way he is worth that much. If he averaged 22 and 10 with a few blocks here and there, he might have a better chance, but at this point, he does not command that much money.
I hope they can sign him because right now, they dont even have a backup. I sure wish they could have gotten Milsap.

The Blazers are trying to stay with teams like the Lakers and be genuinely competitive. They made a preposterous offer to Hedo Turkoglu and were fortunate to be outbid by the ridiculous Raptors. Why they are having problems coming to terms with Aldridge is a bit of a mystery to me. Aldridge is still a young player with time to improve and fits with the Blazers.
He is not a star but the indications of his ability are there and he does play full seasons. Portland is close and the addition of Miller may provide the spark they (including Aldridge) need to press just a bit harder when necessary.

Aldridge is a STAR and he will prove it this year... dagoldeneagle says he isn't a Kings fan but Im pretty sure he's a Chicago Bulls fan and he's pissed that you guys gave up Aldridge for Tyrus Thomas... haha.. Stop hating man you probably a fat ass.. soo stop crying like a little [profane]. Aldridge is going to be an all star this year no doubt. He deserves a contract extension... not max but a pretty heavy one.

WIth Oden, Outlaw, and Pryzbilla all sharing time at that "big" spot along with the two ROOKIE 7 footers the Blazers have seeking time it's a wonder Aldridge accomplishes anything. He would be a star with proper time so far as his inefficiency and "being soft" goes I'd have to differ with that. I do think Outlaw is better though at the end of the day...but that's just my opinion.

marty, lol you must not of watched many blazer games! first OUTLAW does not play center, he can't rebound, play defence or make a good decision. He can however come off the bench and add 10-12 points which we will take.Aldridge has huge upside and is on the verge of being a star if not allready there, and im sure thats the opinion of majority of BLAZER FANS.Oh by the way who are the 2 rookie 7 footers?

Here's a question......IF Aldridge is so OVERRATED, then WHY is he in the Blazers starting line-up & why do MOST Coaches & GM's RAVE about him?.......I don't see anywhere in this article where the writer is calling Aldridge anything MORE than what he is "a star forward" for the Portland Trailblazers........any of you HATERS ever take a look at POR's record when he's not in the line-up?

    #22 U stupid.
While here in Chicago we're still waiting for Tyrus Thomas to be half as consistent as Aldrigde.
John Paxson screwed this one up big time.
@14 Since you got Oden on the 2nd team then you don't get to speak or type for that matter.

#14 Outlaw will not get be in the starting line up. He isn't a rising star. He has been in the league for 6 or 7 years. Batum is however the player on the rise. If you saw any of his games in the euro championship his offensive game improved drastically.
