Suns want a big man

It's looking a lot like the Phoenix Suns are trying to find another big man to add to the roster for the regular season, according to the Arizona Republic.

"You can never have enough bigs in this league but it has to be someone that's going to be able to help the team," Suns coach Alvin Gentry told the paper. "We're not just going to go out and put another guy on our team to say, ‘Now, we've got a big.' If we're going to go get someone, he has to be a guy who can play in our rotation."

Guess they're missing that Shaquille O'Neal(notes) fellow right about now.

The person who will likely pay the price is third-string point guard Dan Dickau(notes).

    dickau is an NBA player.
keep the man.get rid of goran dragic, taylor griffin, or robin lopez. (what's with suns' obsession with the crappy twins? pick up stephen graham and jarron collins while you're at it)
as for big man, go for austin croshere, stromile swift, darius miles, donyell marshall, raef lafrentz, or antoine walker.

these guys are available for a non-guarantee contracts the suns might need
Mike Sweetney - can throw his weight around
Mutombo - old but still effective defensively
Chris Mihm - shot blocker & high post threat
Mark Blount - decent offensive for a center
Francisco Elson - lower version of tyson chandler
Rafael Araujo - former lottery pick by the raptors
Tiago Splitter - star brazilian center although his rights remains with the spurs
Melvin Ely - low post threat
or they should acquire some of the big men of memphis.. memphis got atleast 4 or centers on that team
    Robert Swift

LOL that might be the worst post ever. what are we in the 90's??? the little relevance these guys had then is certainly gone now. and didn't Swift have a go with the Suns already?

    Duh, you think!
By the way, boomer you have no idea what your are taking about. The reason the Suns didn't make the playoffs was Steve Kerr and Terry Porter. By the time the Suns fired Porter, he traded away half of the Suns. When Alvin Gentry took over the Suns had already dug a very deep hole. The team responed to Alvin, but just couldn't dig their way out of that hole! This failure squarely rest of the shoulders of Steve Kerr and Terry Porter.

I think Motumbo retired, but if not I would offer him a 1 year contract. I use him as my backup on live 10. 43 but still could get it done!

Livin' the Vegas Life is freaking right guys. The Suns front office totally messed up in the past 2 years. Marion for Shaq? Mistake. Fire D'Antoni and hire Porter? Mistake. Trade half the team? Mistake. The Suns were possibly one of the best teams in the NBA before the Marion trade. But now they (arguably) aren't even a "playoff team". That's sad because I still highly respect their players and I believe that if they had just not fiddled with the core of their team from 2 years ago, they would still be an elite team. Btw, to some of you guys who will tell me that Marion is now a non-issue, just remember that Marion greatly complemented Nash and Amare. He was a great perimeter and post defender who could defend every position. He was great at movement without the ball (and this is where Nash made him into an all-star). And he was a perfect fit for the run-run-run Suns because he was arguably their most athletic player.

Kerr could make up for all of his screwups by: 1) trading Stoudamire to Orlando for Gortat & Ryan Anderson.
    2) Getting rid of Richardson & his $13.5 mil contract. That is $2 mil more than Nash makes by the way.
Any wing player that can shoot open 3's could replace Richardson without being a head case.
Gortat had 16 points, 14 rebounds & 5 blocks in an preseason game last week. he is ready 2 B a STAR in the NBA. he can catch & finish. Nash will give him plenty of ops 2 do just that. Anderson was the STEAL of the 2008 draft, and the Best part of the Magics trade with the Nets. Anderson is a youg, 6-10 version of Grant Hill, but a better 3 point shooter. By Far.
Kerr the worst GM since Chris Wallace in Boston & now Memphis, could do the above & the Suns would be a 3 seed.

If they're looking for big they can develop (and play a little now), then Swift would be an answer. 7 foot, and young with potential upside. Most of the other guys out there are too veteran, not tall enough, or won't fit into Suns long term plans.

Listen to the idiot convention....almost none of you know what you are talking about.
Shaq didn't fit. Period. He played good ball, he gave it a fair shot, but in the end, he just didn't match up well with the rest of thr personell.
What we need is an athletic Big who can defend the pick and roll and rebound. We don't need a C who can score much, just defend.
I think the Suns should try to hold on to Dickau. We have always needed a legit backup PG and have never had one. That's been part of the whole problem. Very seldom can a team win a title with a solid or great starting 5 and a bench full of youngsters trying to learn on the fly. You need a bench consisting of vets who can come in and give a few good minutes and maintain a lead.
With that in mind, Keep Dickau, try to lose Dragic and Lopez, and shoot for Marcus Camby....that would be the perfect scenario, to me.
Or, if Kerr is dead set on moving Stoudemire, maybe look at GS, Morrow and Biedrins and SJax if you can't get Curry, send them Amare and JRich. I don't want to lose STAT, but if they are going to end up losing him or moving him anyways, you can't go wrong there.....

The Magic are loaded & ready to win a championship. I picked them to win it all 6 weeks before last season ended. I knew Gasol was GOOD, but as Magic Johnson said, " without Pau Gasol the Lakers don't win a championship, & Kobe isn't playing in the finals"
The Magic can have a bench with Bass & Anderson @ Forwards, Gortat @ Center, & Peitrus & Reddick @ guards. That is a better lineup than half or 2/3 of the NBA teams starters. Those 5 don't include a PG, but Reddidck & Pietrus can pass in the 1/2 court. Gortat & bass can score down low, rebound & defend. Anderson, Pietrus & Reddick can shoot from the outside. And both guards can play D. Ask Ray Allen.
If Amare comes for Gortat & Anderson, he can play PF & some Center. And barnes can back up Rashard Lewis.
The Magic & Suns could be in the finals. If Vinsanity keeps his shot attempts to those of a role player, not a STAR Wannabe.

There aren't any bigs out there worth signing that can play this year. The Suns are going to get pounded on the boards worse then ever without Lopez for at least Nov.-Dec.
Once Blair slipped to the bottom of the 1st round the Suns should have tried like mad to get the Lakers or Cavs pick.

23: Are you serious? You call everyone idiots and then say the Suns need a guy who can guard the pick and roll. Who's your solution? Marcus Camby? Are you kidding me? Marcus Camby is, without a doubt, the most overrated defender in the NBA. All of his blocks come from the 8 possessions a game he actually tries on, and all come from him just sitting down low.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mjkRJ6DgKro
Camby doesn't try. He's an overrated POS.
There's a reason he was traded for a second round pick, and it's not because of the contract. A month after they traded him, they traded AI, who was set to be an FA the next year, for Billups, who has a longer contract.
