Nets moving to Newark?

The New Jersey Nets played two preseason games in Newark and the team drew so well there in comparison to what it normally gets for regular-season games at the Meadowlands that the team is considering playing a bunch of regular-season games there, according to the Newark Star-Ledger. The problem is that the team is supposedly trying to figure out a way around the $8 million penalty that it could incur if it doesn't play all its home games at the Meadowlands.

Meanwhile, some residents of Brooklyn, where the team is planning to move, are hoping that the team hits enough legal hurdles in its plans for a new arena and also finds Newark so welcoming that it will bag on its plan. Russian billionaire Mikhail Prokhorov, who only needs to gain approval from other owners in order to take over the team, seems more interested in having a team in New York City's five boroughs than in Newark, though.

Prokhorov apparently met up with a bunch of owners this week and NBA Comissioner David Stern is seeing no reason the basketball-loving fella who is worth $9.5 billion won't be pass muster. Who woldn't want that kind of cash around in these rough financial times?

Newark is just over the river from Manhattan, a 2 minute Path train ride away and has tons of large corporate offices, perfect place to keep the Nets. I have lived in NY all my life and never bothered to drive to Meadowlands to watch them play. If they were in Newark, they would definitely be better off. Plus who wants to go to brooklyn anyway.

Newark is definitely better than the Izod center, the Devil play at the Prudential center and their crowds are better than the Izod center, any place is. That place didn't even sell out when the Nets were in the finals !!! Obviously Brooklyn is better than Newark anybody who disagrees is just a Bitter New Jersian but I live in Jersey and if they have to play in Newark before they play in Newark I guarantee they have the best crowds they have had in a while.

The area the arena is in, is a very safe and beautiful place to be. Bars are all over the place, and more restaurants are popping up al over the place. The Nets should just bite the damn bullet and move there. Forget Brooklyn, Brooklyn doesn't want them. KEEP THE NETS IN NJ, and get an owner who gives a damn about winning a title. Sell them to the devils already

New Russian owner wants Nets in the five boroughs. Worth 9.5B. Can afford to pay for construction for his own arena, and wants to bring Nets into the limelight.
And we're talking about Newark????? Please. They'll be in Brooklyn, count on it.
