Knicks trading Larry Hughes?

“LarryThe contract for Larry Hughes(notes) of the New York Knicks runs out at the end of the season but some folks are thinking he may be an ex-New Yorker before then, according to the New York Post.

Hughes is apparently much more comfortable playing a more structured kind of situation than the freewheeling method to the madness that Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni likes to throw out onto the floor. He's saying that he hasn't played enough in the preseason to fully grasp the whole system D'Antoni is employing.

So there is speculation that Hughes will be exiting the Big Apple soon via trade but one can be sure the Knicks won't be adding a contract that goes past this season. The team is hanging everything on being able to sign some big free agents or another (LeBron James(notes)? Dwyane Wade(notes)? Amare' Stoudemire? Chris Bosh(notes)?) next summer that will lift the team back to a much less embarrassing place than it's in now.

Hughes has not looked very good in preseason with his shots. In 6 games he's 1 for 23 and he just looks lost or something out there. His defense hasn't looked too bad though... I swear I remember Hughes being a real good player a few years back. whats going on?
Who would he be traded for?

prince paul is a such a stupid imbecile. utah wants to hasten the growth of millsap; why would they invest so much in him and then retard his progress by playing him behind okur and boozer?! and utah needs a shooter in the wing spot, you freak show. you know nothing.

Seems like Hughes has lost his devotion to the game. You can just see the difference between a few years. That guy could ball back then, now he just goes thru the motions. What a shame, he's more interested in showing up on video cameos than hitting a shot.

Either way Boozer for Hughes is dumb. Hughes isn't a shooter at all. Can defend but can't shoot. He's a slasher. Jazz don't need Hughes. Not sure where Larry will fit it on any team though with his shooting going down the hill. Larry had the potential to be real good..not sure what happened...

Boozer for Hughes doesn't make much sense at all. Yes, the Jazz invested in Millsap but they can afford to let him play behind Boozer for one more year.
The Jazz can do much better for Boozer if they so choose.

If McGrady isn't where he is supposed to be and Curry can actually play, Curry and Hughes may go to Houston for McGrady-- creates a little more room for NY, rids Curry from NY, gives Houston a decent option if Yao can't play anymore because of his foot and McGrady's also in the last year of his deal and may not return to Houston.

He played for the Knicks last year.
Oreo, why aren't you a GM? Boozer for Hughes is ridiculous. Hughes has always sucked, even when he put up decent numbers. I'd take a second round pick before Hughes.

A pure shooter with FG% under 40 doesn't suit any NBA team at all. Larry's value is his expiring contract and Utah has no reason to trade a useful expiring contract for a pure expiring contract.

I know what happened to him... Cavs fans crack me up... When he and Booxer played with LeBron, everyone made it like LeBron didn't have any help on his team. Truth is Larry Hughes is the most underrated defensive guard in the history of the NBA. Hughes didn't get to play the point when he was in Cleveland because James hogged to PG spot, Iverson Hogged the ball, Hughes played well in Washington, and now he is on a team full of potential stars that clash... It would have been nice to have him play with Wade. Could anyone imagine that backcourt?? But right now most heat fans are amazed by Chalmer's Potential... but Hughes could easily have a 36 point game with the right cast around him. He could easiy average 23 points per game.

Why are the Knicks in an "embarrasing place" right now? Seems to me they have some young exciting talent, competent management, and are a year away from freeing themselves from salary cap hell. Anyone who isn't just trying to gratuitously bash the Knicks would know that they deserve at least a little more respect now. It isn't the Isaiah era any longer.

First of all boozer for hughes isn't stupid. It will give utah more freedom to have millsap grow faster rathr than have him back up one more year and hughes is better than any two guard on that time, korver and miles. also having hughes play next to a point guard who can create like how arenas did in washington but more pass less shooting a la deron williams, will boost his numbers back up. and o yeah he is one of the top defenders in the league also helps out.
As for Mcgrady for hughes and Curry, if the can make that happen with jefferies and curry and do the hughes and boozer, that would be crazy cause now you have 2 superstars that you can have a chance of signing next year and bring in another with lebron, wade, bosh, and stodemire.

hughes is a slasher not a pure shooter.
the cavs tried to make him a spot up guy and his rep suffered.
he can compete with any guard in this league.
all larry needs is a chance to duplicate his #'s with the wizards.

Hughes isn't any good if he can't find a spot on the Knicks. He is NOT a good shooter; just watch him play! Madena, I hope your talk show is a success but don't hurt your credibility by saying Boozer for Hughes makes sense. Utah can get so much more for Boozer and his expiring contract. If Utah wants a good backcourt compliment to Deron Williams why wouldn't they go with a real pure shooter, even a young guy?
