Ball Don't Lie - NBA

Funny moment from Saturday's marquee Anti-NBA Finals game: 0.5 seconds left in the first quarter. New York Knicks inbound the ball to guard Nate Robinson(notes). The New York guard, for whatever reason, turns and purposely heaves a 30-foot shot at the wrong basket. Goes in. Cue hilarity and Mike D'Antoni mustache rage.

Now, as you can see, the shot came just after the buzzer. But still, that didn't stop the Knicks coach from giving Nate a little piece of his mind. D'Antoni was livid. He even stormed a few feet onto the court to yell.

Nate's response: "What? What?"

If that doesn't perfectly sum up the Knicks' 2009-10 season, I don't know what does.

Cheers, Jose3030.

um...might want to fix this. nate robinson plays for the knicks, you put it in italics and everything, but you meant nets.

Yeah, Colts, it's a funny little dilemma. Is YOUR basket the one you're shooting at? Or defending? The rulebook says, "A team's basket consists of the basket ring and net through which its players try to shoot the ball." But a lot of people argue YOUR net is the one YOU'RE defending. Odd.

genius_man16, the handle doesnt suit you. yes they are playing a game. but they are paid millions to do it, so you better play it the right way. and there is no fun when you have a 2-9 record.

Okay, but theres .5 seconds left on the FIRST quarter, shot didn't even count, and the job they're doing is PLAYING a game of basketball, besides they can't lose a game based on a first quarter shot that didn't even count.

Haha, maybe Nate Robinson was just practicing his three point shooting for the 2nd half when they shoot at that basket.
Given how their season has been, I won't blame him for trying to have some fun.

In the event that for some reason the clock started a fraction late after the inbounds pass and the points had counted, which Net would have been awarded the points? Is it the nearest player to the "shooter" or to the basket, (if anyone)?

"If that doesn't perfectly sum up the Knicks' 2009-10 season, I don't know what does" Huh? This doesn't sum up the Knicks season. Unless you take the ball, give it to the opponent, let them score, repeat.
Why is this even featured? Players shoot on opponent's hoop nearly every game after the buzzer. There were so many good dunks last night. D'antoni is dumb for getting mad, Nate knew that had no chance of counting or getting a shot on his hoop with .5 sec.

I think Nate deserved the benching after that incident. It would have been more "fun" speeding it up a notch and heaving a similar bomb in the RIGHT basket. . . Still no answer to my question. . I know sometimes a ball bounces off a defender's head and goes in. . . not sure who gets to pad their stats for that. How about if an attacking player has it bounce off HIS head and it goes in the "right" basket. . . does he get a rebound and the points like in a normal tip-in? Just wondering. . . if these are stupid questions I'll get back to my Mozart where I belong.. .

nate took a few steps too, it was obvious he was kidding around. but still a dumb thing to do. save those baskets for when they count. just imagine if the refs blew the call and said he scored for the Nets. Tabloids would string him up, as would the few fans out there. What's Spike Lee have to say about the NY Knuckleheads?

D'Antoni has legit beef. If you are going to shoot, why the HELL wouldn't you shoot towards the opposing basket. Too many times I've seen players eat the ball so as not to hurt their precious FG %. Makes me sick.
