Last night was the official end of my 2007-08 season. It's over. Man, I never thought I'd spend two full seasons in the D-League, but it sure did happen. I guess that's how it goes sometimes.
Anyways, I'll recap the season another day. Today is part three of the "wow, that's tight" posts I've done recently. For starters, on my way back from Ft. Wayne, I was in the Detroit airport buying batteries when I noticed a guy looking at SLAM. I walked by him and said, "Go to page 80," and kept walking. He looked at me, then turned the pages, then looked at me again as I walked away. It was pretty sweet to be able to do that.
Also, for the last month, I've been the only player in the D-League wearing his own shoe. My shoe actually matches the same style as the "Boom Tho" shirt. Since most of our games during that stretch were on the road, a lot of road fans had no idea what the big "Boom Tho" logo on my shoes meant. Even more of them didn't know what brand of shoe they were. Guys on the other teams tried to hate, but at the end of the day "Boom Tho" is on a shoe, so they were forced to congratulate. This summer, my crew of "Boom Tho" originators and I will be rocking our shirts and kicks as a group. Oh yes, what a glorious summer this will be. Maybe I'll get someone from my NBA Summer League team to rock a pair and hype the movement as well.
I'm pretty sure that there will be a ridiculous amount of hype for the movement coming soon. This is what I've been holding onto for the past few days. Last week, Bill Simmons came out to North Dakota to visit me. With him came Jamie Horowitz, a senior producer with ESPN Original Entertainment, two cameramen, one sound guy, and one video editor. Here we are:

We spent two days going around my favorite North Dakota hot spots like Wal-Mart and the Capitol building. We watched the NCAA title game and played various games, most of which I dominated Bill in. While filming, I discovered that the sound and cameramen could always hear me because I was mic'd up. So, instead of talking to other people around me, I would talk trash about the camera and sound guys into my mic. In case you couldn't tell, I really enjoy being mic'd up.
The show, E:60, will be on ESPN on Tuesday, April 22nd (this upcoming Tuesday) at 7pm, or 6 if you're in North Dakota like me. The commercial for the show will be airing all week as well. Rod Benson, the Boom Tho Movement, The Sports Guy, and ESPN all come together for a TMRB hyping bonanza. I assume that there will be a few more people jumping on the bandwagon, but the original readers will always know what's up. Boom.
Rod Benson is a Cal grad who plays for the D-League's Dakota Wizards. He also blogs two or three times a week on Ball Don't Lie. Read his archive, pay a visit to TooMuchRodBenson.com and always support the Boom Tho movement.

Rod, I hope you break into the Association next year. Should you give the D-League one more shot, though, I'll be waiting for your team to face the Thunderbirds again.
