NASCAR - Sports Rumors

“BobbyBobby Labonte has apparently made a visit to Robby Gordon Motorsports to talk to Gordon about driving for him in 2010, according to Jayski.com.

Gordon, who owns and drives the No. 7 Toyota, is apparently considering starting up another team in 2010 and Labonte would be easier to get sponsorship for than many other potential drivers.

Meanwhile, Labonte's brother Terry, who is a semi-retired driver, is still trying to team up with former team owner Bill Savola to make a new racing team in NASCAR that will start its engines in 2010. The team will be called StavolaLabonte Racing, naturally, and appear in the Sprint Cup Series, which the 52-year-old Labonte won way back in 1984 and 1996.

Well, this will be good for Bobby. Another horrible team. Poor guy can't catch a break.

RGM is not another horrible team. Robby since he started as the ONLY "single" owner/driver in 2005 has never been a start and park.

This could be exactly what both of them need.

Savola and RGM should team up and hire Bobby, employ Terry for a part time ride & mgmt role. Let Robby drive and general manage the team. They could name the team GSR (gun shot residue)- lol. No, really, Bobby still has skill. Robby can manage and drive- he's been doing it for a decade in other series. Terry has wins, experience and sponsors like him and Savola has been in the big league before. Seems like a good idea to me.

Too many Robby Gordon haters!!! What gives???? I met him & he gave me his time. Other drivers & announcers drove by us but he stopped & talked with us. That goes a long way in my book. All of you other posters are right. Look at his success in SCORE. Running a team, paying salaries, getting sponsors.
Give RG a freakin break, will ya!!!!!
Bobby labonte could possible have a resurrection of his career. Don't snicker till the season starts. BL could even win Atlanta again!!!!

Honestly, as a Labonte fan I would like to see him drive a car like the 1 or the 07 but the 1 seems to be leaning towards McMurray. This is strange considering McMurray even though younger hasn't showed much better results then Labonte except for a few races and his equipment has been substantially better. The 07 doesn't have sponsorship so that makes sense. I think that since the options are limited and Bobby is basically down to RGM and TRG I think he would be better off in a Robby Gordon Toyota then a TRG Chevrolet. I disagree that this would resurrect Bobby's career because I still do not feel that RGM equipment would be any better than the 43 but maybe only better than the 96 but this would definitely give him a shot to continue racing in the top 20 and possibly gain top 10s here and there. I think maybe one top 5 is possible but is a stretch and consistency with equipment such as this is hard and he would have to go to a much better team to get consistend top 10 and top 5 runs.

This would be a great move for both drivers. Bobby has talent just like Robby and would complement the RGM organization. Robby always has pletty of fand waiting for his autograph. Says a lot about his character. It's infortunate that the other drives think it's not important or say they don't have the time to sign autographs. They should all take lessons from Robby. When my wife was sick and couldn't attend the Darlington race, I handed him my cell phone when it was my turn to get an autograph and he talked to her for several minutes wishing her well. Now tell me, how many other drivers would do that!

Bobby, not RGM please!!!!!!!! I know good rides these days are few and far between but this would be worst than the 43 and the 96 you took to take your career further down the drain.I just hope something better comes alone and if not I'd take the TRG Chevy anyday over RGM.I'll still be pulling for ya Bobby but its been rough the last few years. Not a bandwagon jumper and still hanging in there for now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Notice how Bobby was in the top of the field again today, in a second tier team car. If he get's solid equipment he will be running up front on a regular basis.

I'm a big b. labonte fan and would love to see him drive next year. i think things are pretty sad when all one hears about are drivers that really have no real credentials. Bobby has won the whole show and deserves his due, but all I ever hear is Jr. this and Jr. that. What has he won??? Yes, he has won races, but not the Cup. You must win the big show. That's it, you must win the big show and if you haven't,then, you haven't earned any free rides. I only wish that the big owners would give some thought to giving Bobby a shot in a good ride. It may be too late for him, or is it???

I really feel like Bobby Labonte is nearing the end of his racing career. When he was still with Joe Gibbs, he started to tumble...Do you really think that Joe Gibbs would let HIS Champion just go? Joe could see it, Bobby could see it. Sponsors get antsy...He should get around the track without other cars...He just seems to have lost it.
I wonder if he drove a car like Jimmy Johnsons or Jeff Gordons how he would do??? Would give a beeter Idea if it's him or really his equipment...
