Earnhardt has “had enough” with frustrating year

CONCORD, N.C. (AP)—Dale Earnhardt Jr. says he’s “had enough” as he rides out the worst season of his NASCAR career.

Earnhardt is stuck in a 51-race winless streak dating back to 2008, his first season with Hendrick Motorsports. He heads into Saturday night’s race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway ranked 22nd in the standings and has just five top-10s this season.

He says he’s been trying to ride out the season, but “there comes a point where you don’t want to ride it out no more. You’ve just had enough.”

Earnhardt says he has no answers on how to lift his slumping No. 88 team.

He’ll start 39th in Saturday night’s race.

I've had enough too. Of NASCAR and what it's become. I just can't watch anymore, and I've been doing it for 30 years. I've got better things to do than spend 5 hours sleeping in front of the TV. It used to be fun and exciting, when characters with personality ran races, when big cars driving 200 mph could bang fenders without destroying each other's chances, when each race mattered but did not mean the difference between a champion and an also-ran, when innovation was encouraged instead of regulated out.

RACING: Sliding sideways around the corner, leaving a cloudy trail of bias-ply rubber in their wake, maybe bumping into each other yet somehow maintaining control. RACING: A car spins coming out of turn 2, but miraculously there is no yellow flag. Better get moving, the field's gonna lap you. RACING: Introducing an X-pipe exhaust when nobody else has thought of it, and it's somehow within the scope of the rules. Thinking should not be illegal. RACING: When independent owners could go to Daytona with a shot at actually winning. That, my friends, was the reason for the dual qualification races, it's not an exhibition. RACING: 220 mph in a Thunderbird. Dangerous? Oh yes. To quote the Intimidator, "Don’t come here and grumble about going too fast. — Put a kerosene rag around your ankles so the ants won’t climb up there and eat that candy ass."

Eliminate the chase. 10 bonus points for winning a race. 2-car maximum per owner, with thorough oversight to discourage ghost owners with hidden affiliations. 115-inch wheelbase. Radials at tracks 2-miles or longer, bias-ply everywhere else. Fewer templates, that thing you're driving looks nothing like what's in my garage. No restrictor plates, reduce the displacement if you need to.

    Let's go racing.

Bye NASCAR, I'm going to go watch some racing at Irwindale and Redwood Acres.

Jr. hasn't been a real competitor since he almost got killed in that Corvette he burned up in California. It did something to his nerve.

Put Jr. in the 5/24/48/14/39 and he'd still SUCK!!! Put Kevin Harvick or Jeff Burton in the 88 and they'd be in the Chase, or at least the Top 20, ha, ha, ha. Kyle Busch Rules, Jr. Drools,,,,,,,

Poor junior ! i guess when your father was one of the best it puts a lot of pressure on you especially if you do not have his talent and determination to win. stop whinning junior and blaming others because you can't win, ask your teammates for help. your teammates all made the chase with the same equipment that you get. if you count tony and ryan that means that you are the only driver with hendrick motors and chassis that did not make the chase. i guess just your name is not enough.

the only thing Jr, needs to learn if he wants better crews--cars. is how to get on his knees like JJ does in front of rick hendrick. seems to work for JJ.

to all of you picking on Tony jr as a crew chief I would like to point out that he and Brad do really well when they run the 25 car and have even finished ahead of the 88 more than once. Dale jr (and others) ran better in the old cars but I will give him credit he and all the guys who make it into the field can drive way better than I ever could and I enjoy watching every week. But really folks they are just people same as you and me and if you need to get as nasty as some of these posts you you should get some help

Jr. needs to get back to the basics next season. The team needs to learn from this season instead of completely forgetting it. They should try to figure out why they are having so much enginge trouble and fix it. They also need to learn how to make a pit stop, they have had nothing but trouble and mistakes on pit road this season. They should also learn to use strategy once in a while. Every time they make a pit stop, they always take four tires and gas. They never try two tires like Gordon and Johnson. Junior has the talent and he's shown it in the past. They need to learn how to be a team and race again.
No matter what I'm still a Dale Jr. fan.

Yea, lil Dale Jr needs to step aside from racing. And get a new vocation. Just isn't a race driver. Plus far too much to live up to, even if he was, due to his last name.

Leave Nascar, get a good vocation, enjoy life Dale.

hey depends, are you sure you have been listening to Jr and not someone else? Jr rarely tells the crew chief what to do, or what is wrong, unless its "it handles like a truck" or " its light in the corners", or some other vague complaint while everyone else is "take the track bar up two points" or " drop the tire pressure by two on the right side" or some other direction. Overrunning the pits, overreving the engine due to frustration, staying in the back of the pack where the accidents happen, those are all Jr issues.
the only reason Jr got with Hendrick is because he had big sponsor money that Hendrick needs to finance those cars, and thats the only reason he isnt out on the street right now. the crew he has now arent just a bunch of layabouts that happened to be on the street corner when Hendrick called, these are top guys, better than most of the competition and sick of busting their asses for a bozo that wastes their efforts. Jr sucked before Hendrick anyway, and jumped teams because he thought he was getting crap to drive. Its not the crew chief, its not the crew, its not the motors, its not the car. that leaves only the driver, and this one cant drive a COT.

to you blind freaks who post that jr has the best motors and transmissions,,, have you been watching desperate housewifes? you sure havent been watching NASCAR, because no other hendricks driver has had the mechanical failures that jr has had this year.his cars suck plain and simple. add to that (for those of you who who have track pass, can verify this) when he tells the crew chief to do one thing, and gets the opposite, and the car is worse after the pit stop,, how can you blame the driver? If hendrics TRULY wants to help Jr be the competitor he claims he wants him to be, he needs to fire the whole damn crew, and start over with people who want a winning team. Yeah JR is saying he's had enough. not because he cant drive, in his own words he says he doesnt understand why he has the fan base he has. He just is fed up with having crappy gear and a crappy team. You Sr haters say he should realize he's not his dad, but he has from DAY ONE stated he didnt want any special treatment because of his dad, and knew he wasnt the driver his dad was. how many of them do you think are out there,,, NONE. Petty and Dale Sr. were in a league of their own period. Fact of the matter is that if Jr didnt have talent he wouldnt have been asked to join hendricks in the first place.

When you get real about it and quit giving him credit because of his father. He just dose not have it. He is wreckless and always has lame excuses why he cant win. Okay he is popular but without Dales legacy he would be just another bum on the track. He will never be a real contender with the raw talent out there. Dale give it up and let Hendrick place another rock on the team. If it wasn't for you and your wanna be ways perhaps Hendrick would have #1, #2, #3 and #4 locked. Because of you he has only 1 to 3 locked and your lost in the abyss. Give it up Dale you are just a lame with a stupid following. Loosers.

Junior is a great person. He is very thoughtful of others. He will usually take the blame' when something is his fault. However, he is not a good driver. DEI had the restrictor plate raced figured out for a few years and that is why daddy and junior won races for a while. This made junior and Mikey look like race car drivers for a while. When they are put in equal cars to the other drivers, neither can drive. His fans are living in denial. He is an average race car driver on a good day. Period!!

When will everyone wake up and realize little Dale JR is not the DRIVER all of hes fans and the media thinks he is. He is lucky to be 22nd in points and not back there with who ever drives the # 87 car. He is just showing everyone how much of a crybaby he really is. But maybe Nascar will find a way to give him a win like they did last year at Michiagan. I think he should just give up and try and run that half way bar he has.

Maybe when he signed with Hendrick he should have said that " I have a lot to learn and hope that Jeff and Jimmie can teach me" instead of saying that "I have nothing to learn from them" he would be in a better position. Between Jeff and Jimmie they have 6 Championships and Jr has...oh yeah 0. He needs to just suck it up and admit that he is not the best driver in NASCAR, that he is only there because of his name, and accept his role as the #4 driver on the team.

I am a jr fan & have been for awhile. I hate to see something happen to him every week. I know he is not in championship, but he will be & it will be soon. I am not one of the whiners, but it is disappointing. My driver was Davey Allison & watched him grow & mature as a driver. Bright future ahead. People will never stop complaining about drivers, that is what makes nascar so great. Jr. keep your head up. Keep going & you will have those wins again. Your fans will be waiting.
