TUF 10 talk: Jensen's trip to la-la land

Zak Jensen is Cagewriter's guest blogger during TUF 10

Going into episode six, Team Rashad was 5-0 and Team Rampage’s morale was down. We just had our most experienced fighter, Wes Sims, choked out by the youngest guy in the house, Justin Wren. Ever since the first fight, Team Rampage has been on a slippery slope with no end in sight. Not only are we losing, but our head coach leaves us alone on the Octagon floor until Rashad and his coaches come across the cage. It happened again with Wes Sims after his loss to Justin Wren.

Before my fight, Wes continues where he left off last week. He’s seen that his feeble, infantile attempts to bother me have had no effect, so he switches it up. He goes for the story of me sniffing his shorts. James McSweeney chimes in and calls me weird. I don’t know what I did to Wes for him to direct his immaturity towards me, but I just laugh it off and try to focus on the goal at hand. That was made even harder with the introduction of the “When will Jensen crack calendar.”

Everyone thought I was going to get picked to fight and it happened. I’m matched up against Darrill Schoonover. When Rashad picks Darrill, Rampage made the "titties" remark again and Darrill responds just like anyone would have. After our face off, we shook hands. Rampage and Darrill went at it, and Rashad had to get in the middle. I walked away because it was childish and stupid.

We got to the training session and I sparred with Wes Shivers. Nearing the end of the practice, I was tired and Rampage was "coaching" me by saying get mad and other nonsense. Because of the lackluster final round with Wes, I had to do one more with Coach Tom. As you all saw it didn’t turn out too well. I got cut and Kimbo Slice rejoiced like an ass.

I got stitches and then at the next practice continued to train. I didn’t let the cut bother me. It’s nice to see people’s true colors and what they think of you. Tiki Ghosn had no faith but Junior and Hector said they thought I’d be fine to fight and that I had heart.

Darrill’s training focused on his stand up and breaking me. He was instructed to push me against the cage, knee my legs and dirty box. Darrill got focused and stopped drinking when the coaches asked him to. I like Darrill, he’s the kinda guy who comes to fight every time.

At the weigh-ins, Darrill and Rampage got into it again. After the altercation, I went up to Darrill and said forget all the [expletive] and let’s just have a good fight. Rampage and Tiki thought it would be funny to write “Titties” on Darrill's name on his locker-room door. It was ridiculous. The damn “Team Cocky” picture was funny but it got to the point where the pranks were getting more planning than the fights.

At the start of the fight, me and Darrill wasted no time and started going at each other. He had fast hands. I wasn’t stunned by any of his shots but they just kept coming. I saw an open shot for a takedown so I took it. I drove up the single leg, tripped him and then landed in his guard. He went for a triangle but it wasn’t tight. My brain stopped working,  I stayed in a bad situation too long. It got tighter and tighter but I kept fighting and then I just drifted off to la-la land.

Once again Rampage didn’t enter the cage to tend to his fallen fighter. All Rampage did was give me the stink eye. When we were back in the locker room said, "You just gave him $5,000, how does that feel?"

The only highlight I got from the episode was the funny nickname Kimbo gave me. He said "If Shrek had a little brother he would look like Jensen, and his name would be Lenderman." It was funny since one Halloween in college at Northern Illinois, I actually was Shrek.

Each heavyweight fight on TUF looks more sloppy than the last one, seeing Darrill take forever to secure the triangle choke and seeing Zak not improve his position is a sad sight for the heavyweight division in the UFC. I don't want to see any of these fighters fight in the UFC to be honest, besides Kimbo because he's an entertaining character to watch. Somebody please teach Kimbo some ground game to salvage something out of TUF this year

This week's fight better be good. Or i'm not watching TUF again this season. the first few fights sucked. watching 2 guys get gassed after 2 minutes of round 1, plus rampage is a d-bag and does not coach his fighters. this whole "best season ever" is complete BS.

This season sucks. People wanted others to "wait until a few more fights happen" before they judge the season. Well, there's been more fights and they have all still sucked. I laughed hearing Rogan hype this season's TUF. Him and Dana both hyped it up as "exciting" with "great fights". They can't be serious. I know..I know...they have to say that kind of stuff. But it makes them look stupid and they lose credibility in my eyes when they tell me how great TUF has been when there's been NOTHING great about it from the coaching to the fights to the trash talking etc. No more hw's should be allowed on TUF. The shows were much more interesting with other weight classes because they fights were better. And I don't watch TUF to see Kimbo or pranks or bad coaching.

Actually, JJ...I said to wait until the second round of fights, where we're more likely to get matchups between better fighters by virtue of the fact that they've already won once...and often in convincing fashion.

Not you Rob..other's have said to wait until there are more fights. This was after like the 1st or 2nd episode. I'm really hoping I'm wrong and the 2nd round has good fights. From what I've seen so far, the fighters that have won aren't impressive because the fighters they beat weren't very good except for the Shaub fight. But you gotta admit Rob..this season has been fouled up with the whole Kimbo thing and Rampage vs Rashad fighting and then not fighting, the boring fights (so far) etc. And when I say the "Kimbo thing" I mean Dana using him just to get ratings.

This season has been complete and utter GARBAGE! The only highlights are Rampage's sometimes funny cracks that eventually get old. You could have found a better talent pool from the fans in the first row of a Raider's game. There has been better fights on Real World Miami than this season of TUF.

The "Kimbo thing" hasn't bothered me, because I was going to watch anyway. And actually, I've been interested to see how he'd interact with the fighters and how seriously he'd take his training and perform against new prospects. I think having Kimbo on the show has been a net-positive for the show, even if it was just a publicity/ratings stunt.
I was impressed with Schaub, Wren, Nelson, and to a somewhat lesser extent with Schoon and Madsen. Madsen's a little unfair because Wagner had nothing for him and the ref never made Madsen take any risks, so why take risks? I was not impressed with McSweeney, especially given all the hype he was getting before the season and from Rashad before picks.
The worst thing that happened for TUF 10 was that the Rampage-Rashad fight fell through. If that fight was still on, then this season was providing a REALLY good buildup.

How come we're almost a week away from what looks to be a very good Strikeforce card and we're still putting out blogs about the UFC and TUF? Maggie is usually pretty good about giving us blogs on other organizations like DREAM and Strikeforce. Are we going to get any stories on the fighters getting ready to fights next week? Why would this card get any less attention that UFC cards or TUF?

this season would have been 1000x better had the fighters had to fight to get into the house like usual. it would have eliminated all the [profane]ty fighters.. like Jensen, from the get-go and only decent fighters would be allowed in the house.

I wonder how much better Kimbo would have been on the show had he been picked by Rashad? Just a thought. Also the episodes have been boring so far but i look forward to seeing Rampage rip that door in half this week. LOL now thats entertainment.

I'm surprised Jensen didn't comment on the absolute stupidity of Rampage's pre-fight non-stop "titties" pump up speech. I wanted to jump into the t.v. and yell "STFU!!!" after Rampage's 20th pre-fight "titties" comment. That is NO way to pump up a fighter.....I was annoyed for Zak.
P.S. Rampage is still dope!!! FTW! After your movie, please come back and fight bro!!!!!

As a fighter, Rampage Jackson has been my favorite since the day I got into mixed martial arts. As a coach, I have to cover my eyes in shame while watching him. He says he's a fighter and not a coach (true), but then why is he on TUF for the SECOND time as a coach? Rampage, if you don't want to be a coach, THEN DON'T COACH! I feel bad for Rampage's fighters because unlike for him, this is the opportunity of their life, and by being on his team they are put at a CLEAR disadvantage. I smelled publcity stunt from the second I heard Rampage was coaching this season and the fact that he passed on his chance to fight Rashad for a role in a movie...well I don't blame him, but he's no longer my fav. fighter because he is no longer a fighter, he is a celebrity.
On the flip-side, I have never been a fan of Rashad Evans, but I have a whole new respect for the guy now. I will root for Rashad in most fights from this point forward. He has so much passion for the sport and also so much respect for it, and for other fighters. I think that he was smart enough to pick a better team, but also gave his fighters sincerely good advice and training -- and he cares about other people. Even though the guy is a badass and a hilarious character, Rampage really only cares about himself.

Seth, you are exactly the kind of person the UFC makes this show for. they control your thinking and you fall for it. I bet if you met rampage and hung out with him for a few days, you would have a different view of him. He is on TUF for a SECOND time because the FIRST time it made him and the UFC a lot of money. He most likely didnt ask to be on the show, it was most likely presented to him by UFC execs as a way to make more money. He isnt there to coach, he is doing exactly what he is supposed to do..be a character and bring viewers. period. Can any of you honestly say a fighter benefitted from being coached by bisbing or griffin? Last I checked griffin was a contestant on the show just a few years ago, now all a sudden he is good enough to be a coach? Rashad has a wrestling background that he can actually teach (although in a few weeks, nothing really gets taught), whereas griffin taught them to umm..brawl? You guys are funny.

Eith the cardio of all these fighters this season is horrible, or most of these guys added weight to qualify for the heavyweight class. Im willing to bet that the person who wins, (unless maybe Marcus) is going to fight at a light-heavy weight class. And i agree with Zak about Kimbo. What kind of [profane] celebrates a fighter getting injured. Did kimbo think Zak would pick him as a replacement after that?

this season is just plain awful and i think the lack of coaching for an entire team is a good reason for it... another good reason is the lack of cardio for all the larger men... i admit that i expected a few guys to gas out but when whole fights are two guys peppering each other with slaps and pats and then dana white saying "these two threw bombs" for two rounds, its just a sad attempt to add excitement to a boring fight in a boring season.
i feel sorry for Jensen and the other guys who never really good a good shot at learning something new and useful, you go into the ultimate fighter for recognition, a shot at a contract, and training with champions... im not going to recognize any of team rampage after this because they all lost and i doubt they really got much training and they are out of contract contention.
i actually am only looking forward to seeing what they are going to do with either a shut out or a 7 - 1 for the second round of fights... kick out the other team if a shut out? or partner people up with the people they beat for training? take away the teams since theres no point in them anymore?

This season is just terrible. They hyped the daylights out of it, but it hasn't produced a single good fight yet with the exception of Wren choking out Sims and kinda Schaub's anaconda.
I can't even believe that the UFC would condone a season as sad as this one. That triangle Darrill used last week was the slowest and weakest triangle I have ever seen. I think Dana's idea of fueling the heavyweight division with new fighters from TUF he is SORELY mistaken. Each of these dudes with the exception of Big Country, Schaub, (maybe) Marcus Jones and (maybe) Wren are going to get SLAUGHTERED in the heavyweight division.
    Predictions of Vera vs. Couture?

Booooo.....BBBOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! This season blows. What the hell was Dana's "Holy Sh#t" reaction after round one. The lamos were about to take a knee. I couldn't even watch the rest of the fight. I'd rather watch fake wrestling sh#t if this is whats in store for UFC.
