Let the talking begin. Tito Ortiz's return to the Octagon at UFC 106 was all set to be a sideshow. Sure "The Huntington Beach Bad Blab Boy" would do his share of trash-talking to hype his fight against Forrest Griffin but that match was merely an appetizer to the buffet UFC fans were presented with, in the Brock Lesnar-Shane Carwin fight.
That fight is gone, Lesnar is out with the flu. So Tito is back where he loves to be - center stage.
In the spotlight with pay-per-views to sell, "The Blab Boy" is ready to fire away. Hell, TMZ caught the guy trash-talking a bum in Hollywood earlier this month, so Griffin is easy pickings:
"A lot of fans hate Forrest now after the Silva fight, but he usually brings it, and I always come to fight," told the L.A. Times.
What will the fan reaction be for Griffin after his mad dash from the cage at UFC 101 and a recent interview where he basically told fans he doesn't need them? Could it be that Ortiz, for once, will be the more popular fighter at UFC 106? And how will that contribute to Griffin's mental state on fight if he's greeted by the Bronx cheer? Ortiz thinks Griffin's spirit has been broken:
"You figure in losing the title [to Evans] that Forrest has doubt; he had doubt against Silva. This is all or nothing for him."
Ortiz, 34, coming back from back surgery, is training in Big Bear, Ca., and it sounds like his biggest hurdle is conditioning:
"And this is my comeback fight. I'm not going to lie, it's been a challenge for me. Not pain. I have no [back] pain, but I'm dealing with the fatigue from not fighting so long. I'm like 80-90% now, not 100. Coming back is hard mentally and physically."
Calling the Lyoto Machida-Mauricio Rua fight "dull," Times' writer Lance Pugmire pointed out that Ortiz thinks his fight against Griffin will be more action-packed.

As far as people hating Griffin, I don't know...I think what happened with him is that a lot of his fans almost felt betrayed the way he bolted the cage and then disappeared. It was out of line with his character and a complete 180 from just about everything he wrote in his book. And it's true that his interview with Farra didn't help much...though I think most of that interview was just tongue-in-cheek...Forrest Being Forrest.
Personally, I'm a fan of his, and while I was definitely disappointed with him post-UFC 101 and disappointed with the Farra interview, but I wouldn't say I hate him. I definitely want him to win this fight.
With Tito, though...people HATE him. He's arguably the most polarizing fighter in U.S. MMA history, even moreso than Lesnar.

The first 6 fights on the list KB24 posted are all fights that interest me:
- Sorry...but Griffin-Ortiz 1 was awesome, and I wanted to see that rematch anyway. The fight has big implications for both guys.
- Cane v. Lil Nog: Cane gets no love, and Lil Nog will probably challenge for the title in the next couple years.
- Hazelett and Parisyan are two of the more unique fighters at 170. Plus, I'm from Cincy and hate Karo, so I have a clear favorite in that fight.
- Amir is being given a huge opportunity to beat a big name...even if he's nothing more than a name right now.
- When has a Marcus Davis fight ever been boring? And how many 6'3" welterweights are there?
- For that matter...how many 6'6" middleweights are there? And can Rosholt close the distance to use his wrestling?
Sorry if I sound like a salesman, but I'm still watching UFC 106.

Yeah, yeah...I know Noguiera fought right after getting out of the hospital with staph. Well...that wasn't too smart of Noguiera, was it? UFC didn't want Lesnar to fight until 2010 anyway (after Cain-Carwin), but Lesnar wanted to get in there sooner. He's going to be a fighting champion, but you can't expect a guy to fight when he can't even train for three consecutive weeks in a critical part of a well-planned training camp.
Carwin accepted and understood that Lesnar couldn't go. If Lesnar's excuse is good enough for Carwin (who previously voiced his general dislike of Lesnar), why not you?

So, all of you that state before a fight that there are no match-ups that interest you, just go back to 104's undercard and look at how much awesome action there was that night. Undercard fighters are hungry and want to put on a show. They want the fight of the night, knockout of the night, etc. to get that bonus money. I'll always find a way to watch UFC.

A) That's lame.
B) Steven knows his stuff.
You said he "fought" the same "bums" over and over...you didn't say anything about winning or losing. Though I don't think having Forrest, Vitor, and Cote on your hitlist is such a bad thing. He also won 2 of the three rounds against Evans if not for the penalty point. There's nothing shameful about losing to Liddell, Couture, or Machida.
His fight resume has nothing to do with whether people like him or hate him. His personality takes care of that.

I have to disagree about the value of the proposed card. Most of the fighters on that card are bottom feeders. Most are TUF rejects.
Forrest Griffin (lowest of the LHW)
Tito Ortiz (Unknown as his time off)
Luiz Cane (ok, nothing special)
Antonio Rogerio Nogueira (ok, nothing special)
Dustin Hazelett (middle of the road)
Karo Parisyan (will never amount to anything)
Phil Baroni (total bum)
Amir Sadollah (TUF joker)
Marcus Davis (cool guy, ok fighter)
Ben Saunders (TUF joker)
Kendall Grove (potential)
Jake Rosholt (nothing special)
Brian Foster (nobody)
Brock Larson (nothing special)
Paulo Thiago (unproven)
Jacob Volkmann (nobody)
Fabricio Camoes (nobody)
Caol Uno (WAY TOO OLD AND IRRELEVANT)
Jason Dent (nothing special)
George Sotiropoulos (TUF middle of the road guy)
I don’t see any real value in this card.

Tito needs to coach another TUF season. He really shone there.

I agree with everything you said in respect to G.O.A.T.'s stupid post. Steven knows MMA and GOAT is not making much sense.

"last 5 years of his career he spent fighting the same bums over and over."
Ummm hate to be the bearer of bad new, but Steven W is right and knows his stuff. First off you didn't say win at all... you said fight and tito hasn't FOUGHT the same people over and over... so he has beaten the same people in what looks like rematches. not over and over... so get your head out of your @$$, and as a UCONN basketball coach once said "GET SOME FACTS AND COME BACK AND SEE ME"
oh and another thing... Bums?? you mean to tell me lyoto (LHW champ), Rashad (former LHW champ), Vitor (who is soon challenging The spider for the MW belt), Couture (who is still good enough to compete for a title NOW), and even chuck when they fought the first time were BUMS?!?!?! WOOOOOWWWW son

The fact that Tito is an unknown should make you want to watch. And in his last fight, he was within an eyelash of derailing the Machida Train.
Cane and Lil Nog are far from "nothing special." Depending where you look, both are in the top 15, if not the top 10 at 205. I see the winner of that fight as being one win away from a title shot.
Hazelett and Parisyan might not be championship material, but they're both unique fighters.
The people you say are "unproven" or "nobody" or "irrelevant" are on the preliminary card, so you wouldn't be paying to see them anyway. And Uno is 40 fights old, but he's only 34 years old.
Maybe I'm a sucker, but I'm watching this card. If not at home, then for free at BW3.
I don't consider Sadollah or Saunders "jokers."
