The lava is still flowing from the close decision given to Lyoto Machida over Shogun Rua at UFC 104. On Sunday, we wrote about the fighters and fans losing their minds, what about the folks who are paid to be a little more objective, like HDNet reporter Ron Kruck?

Apparently, Ron didn't like the decision. The judges scoring the fight differently than many fans, fighters and media members is the UFC and Dana White's fault? I just don't understand how a close decision is embarrassing to the sport. Rest assured, this will happen again, and 99.9 percent of the fans will be there watching the next time.

I'm not so sure some media members deserve to be, and that includes the FoxSportsEspanol staffer who was openly screaming on press row for Cain Velasquez to win his fight.

It's funny how you seem to want it to go away, but you keep posting others people's views. How about getting an interview with machida or rua or dana? I couldn't honestly care less what the HDnet guy thinks about the fight.

this guy sounds like another fanboy with no credentials [profane]ing like they do... et over it... shogun should have knocked him out if he wasnt sure he won. its happened before it'll happen again... get over it...
beside the real point... (i DID NOT watch the fight but...) it is hard to beat a guy who all he does is run around the cage for 25 minutes (machida)...

Is Maggie aware of how you blasted her during your show? How does she put up with your BS? How unprofessional is it of you to launch an attack at your co-worker on a national radio broadcast?

Don't blame UFC and Dana White, they don't control the State athletic commissions. Although some people will cry conspiracy I suppose

The media member that no longer deserve to be there isn't Ron it is in fact yourself if you were sitting cage side and scored that fight any closer than 49/46 Shogun. I scored it 50/45 but could understand somebody giving machida a round so it wasn't so embarrassing. It was a complete shutout and you should probably stop talking about it because you're loosing all your credit with this chit. Check my IP and you will note that I used to come read your opinions 3 times each day. You will also note that my IP will never show up again because you're obviously not qualified this job.

You tell em steven! Now that you have weighed in, we will all follow you oh great leader of leaders! It's me and steven W vs. the world!!!
oh wait..I infact will be on here again, and I dont care that you are leaving. MMA is such a young sport things like this will happen. While people claim it has been around longer, this UFC incarnation of MMA is extremely new. The reason why judges dont know how to score these fights is they are just not used to it. At the same time, all the people bringin up compubox are funny to me.
These are the kind of things that will happen in a fad sport like MMA. It wasnt fixed. The only thing fixed is all your credit card bills with 44.95 on it. lol. What other sport has a maximum time limit of 25 minutes? that is some minor league stuff right there. I would rather go watch boxing...twice as long, way more technical, and i'm not distracted by horrible tattoos and mohawks and what ever else white trash crap can get thrown in the cage. It will be interesting to see the guy who worked at tire-mart just a few years ago become champion. Gotta love MMA.

Until a more subject scoring system arrives with will always happen.
Like a take down is worth 1/2 a knock down.
A jab is 1/2 a front leg kick. A straight right or hook is the same a a body kick.
It's the same problem as body shots in boxing.
Judges who don't know don't value them enough.
Most of Rua's kicks were as 'valuable' than most, if any, of Machida's punches.

after every single ufc event at least 80% of the comments are sum sort of complaints. Everything is always so negative and nothing is ever positive. i really dont understand why most of u watch the sport if it continues to cause u so much agony. someone cheated, the judges are bribed, someone didnt act classy enuf, someone didnt use spellcheck (my personal favorite), a horrible decision was rendered and the list of complaints go on and on. If ufc brings u as much agony as it seems to just quit watching it and start enjoying life some.

Forget the decision. This fight isnt about how good Rua is but how bad machida is. Machida barely beat a tito on his way down with a bad back. The LHW is a bunch of unskilled brawlers. Anderson silva could and should run thru this division.

Kruck might have put his foot in his mouth... again...and that is sad, because HDNet just got their UFC credentials not too long ago. Hope Kruck's mouth doesn't place Inside MMA (an MMA news channel on HDNet) back another few years... really sad actually.

When I fight is this close people need to re-watch it before they start sounding like stupid drunks. The internet is making "proffesionals" look like idiots. Dana White is the first one that looked like an idiot last night. Watch the press conference. The guys is insulting the judges and saying that Rua should have won BUT in the same sentence saying that Machida won Round 2 and 3, Rua won 4 and 5 and the first one could have gone EITHERWAY! If thats the case then MACHIDA COULD HAVE WONT TOO!!!!! How about you rewatch that first round before you start saying stupid things? By the way, I encourage everyone to rewatch that first one and tell me how in the world Rua won that round.
There is only one reason why everyone is so confused and thats because Rua won the last rounds. People only seem to remember the last rounds or even just the last round. Machida won the first 3 and thats all that matters.

The problem Steve, is that it Was Not a close decision by any means.
Machida winning on points was bad enough, but unanimous? Are you joking?
These judges were either a. partially blind, b. not in a right state of mind, c. bought out.
No otherwise healthy, visually acute, mentally sound person gave that fight to Machida.
Rua won that fight 49-46 at the Least based on a range of factors.
Rua landed more strikes than Machida all around, 82 to 42.
Rua was the dominate aggressor the entire fight, pushing the pace.
Rua established and maintained octagon control, dictating when and were engagements occurred.
Machida backpedaled, occasionally countered. At the end of the fight, he had a bloodied lip, bruised/swollen ribcage and trouble with a leg.
No case can be made for how Machida won that fight. He lost in every facet of the game.
Rua is the new UFC Light Heavyweight Champion. Period.

People will argue. The decision has been made. I can't wait for the rematch. Rua needs to chew out his cornermen and fight Machida with the intasity he fought Rampage. Machida needs to protect his legs and work on combinations. His shotokan background anchors him to the one-punch philosophy. He did flurry a couple of times, but each one was primarily straight left-right, no angles, no knees. I was amazed that Machida never threw a lead-leg sidekick vs. Rua. That worked so well for Silva and the two train together.

    Cofield,
I like your columns whenever you post anMMa story, But calling out a reporter from Fox just because he was rooting for Cain Velasquez is just stupid to me. Have you not ever had a favorite Football Team or a favorite anything? You will always root for your favorite no matter who they are fighting. The hispanic community always adores there fighters, always. Your an idiot!!! Who are you to tell anyone that they cannot root for their favorite fighter.! Just because he is a reporter. You a so-called "reporter", but you report on the dumbest [profane] people dont even care about. Stick to writing about football and all the other sports that I question you may even understand. Again your an idiot!!! And by the way, Those he say shogun should have not let the fight go to the judges, Like you Cofield, have never been in a fight. And guess what, sometimes it happens and it goes to the judges. All you ncan do is fight your fight and hope you did enough, which we all know shogun did more than enough to win the decision. If this continues, MMA will soon be just like boxing. Up yours again to those who actually think Machida did enough and won the fight.
