There will be no war of words. It's not in Dan Henderson's personality to flip out on the UFC and Dana White during this free agent negotiation period. Henderson's lawyer did meet with Strikeforce's Scott Coker last week. That fact was confirmed by White who happened to be eating at the same Los Angeles restaurant last Wednesday. White says the negotiations are dead between Hendo and the promotion, the fighter paints a more patient picture during the interview Canada's Sportsnet. White told the media at UFC 104 that his offer was huge and he be shocked if any other promotion can match it:
"He'd like to think that's true, you know I disagree. And feel like I'm worth more than they're offering. And I don't feel like I'm asking for way too much."
Some rumors unconfirmed rumors have place the number at $5 million per fight. White said Henderson is asking for more than anyone else in the UFC currently makes:
"I know that they've signed other deals that are a lot more than my deal or what I'm asking for. I'm always a fair guy and I'm not trying to hold anyone oer a barrel."
Henderson suggests it's closer than people think:
"Sure we're at a little bit of sticking point but either way I'm pretty confident I'll be fighting first of February."
Henderson said he's willing to walk from the UFC but he understands their position. He'll be at the Strikeforce event next week in Chicago cornering Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou.

I know the UFC is tight with their money, but if it is 5 million a fight, that's a little over the top.
I saw Dana as the villain in this one at first, but it's looking like Dan is asking a lot more then he is worth.
The KO of Bisping was great, but not 5 million great.
And if Stirkeforce is going to pay those kind of prices for fighters, one has to ask how long will they last?

I understand the undercard guys are not the big draw, but paying them 5 - 10 grand is pretty bad. I am not saying they should make 50 grand a fight. But I do think they should make a minimum of 15-20. Maybe we would get some better fighters if the low money was higher. Most guys can't afford to train for 8 weeks and only get paid 5-10 grand. They have to work full time and train when they can. If they are on a UFC card, then they have already been through the low pay stage and should be making enough that they can now train full time. Just my opinion.
We would really need to know how much Hendo was paid in his last 4 fights before we could determine what he should be paid now. Maybe he was grossly underpaid and wants the UFC to make up for it.... I don't know.

The fact that there are any rumors at all to that effect makes me completely call into question every rumor we heard about the Emelianenko negotiations.
I could understand if he wanted a guaranteed $500K with some upside based on win bonus and PPV/gate, but there's no way he asked for $5MM.

But yeah...his disclosed was under a million. The undisclosed money was what pushed it up to the $3MM we all talk about.

It also wouldn't surprise me if Hendo asked for a bigger PPV cut than anyone else currently gets. If Hendo is going to insist on that, it's going to be a tough sell, because you know when Lesnar's contract is up, he's going to make sure he gets a bigger cut than Hendo, and it'll get out of control.
I wonder how much of a draw Hendo actually thinks he is. I can name at least 5 bigger (in the US, at least) draws, and I'm sure there are more:
- Lesnar
- GSP
- BJ Penn
- Forrest Griffin (though his stock is way down after the UFC 101 Sprint)
- Randy Couture

If anybody could bend UFC over, it's guys like GSP, BJ Penn, and Rashad Evans, who are still 30 or younger, extremely marketable, and seem to be getting better and better. If they jumped ship, they would give instant credibility to whatever promotion lands them for years to come. Mousasi is that guy too.
