Fedor needs a new lucky sweater

There's definitely a cultural gap between American athletes and a guy like Fedor Emelianenko. The Russian is a low frills fella. The blogosphere rejoiced last week when they spotted Fedor in his awful 80's sweater during a press conference in Russia before he hit the road for his fight in Chicago this weekend. The sweater came along for the trip. Fedor and his opponent Brett Rogers were invited to the Chicago Bears game yesterday, and there it is, the lucky sweater.

The only thing better would've been Fedor sweater wearing one of Mike Ditka's 80's Bears sweater. Even Lou Carnesecca is getting jealous of Fedor's multi-colored sweater. "Looie," the former St. John's basketball coach, wore a lucky sweater during 18 straight wins in 1985.

This is Cofield's "coverage" for the upcoming Strikeforce (or Strikefarce as he and Dana like to call them) card? Sweaters and a song? Cofield's more worried about former UFC fighters being in pornos, little kids getting scared, and people dresssed up for the Thriller song. So Cofield's tally so far for legitimate articles covering the big Strikeforce card which is less than one week away is.....1. Good job Steve. And how many articles has he done on UFC 106 which is a little under three weeks away? At least Maggie's on to something in the previous blog. And why isn't Cofield going to Chicago to cover this card with interviews and such with the fighters??

I have a Mike Ditka Bears sweater. I'd let Fedor borrow it if he promised to give it back in good condition. And JJ, I'm going to be covering everything here in Chicago. I hope that's good enough for you.

Cofield based on some of your interviews I wouldn't be talking about anyone elses style... you look like the only reason you got into radio is for the ability to dress like a sack of potatoes every day. Seriously did you steal your wardrobe from a locker in a bowling alley or something? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black...

    # 2 JJ - Right On! oh and Maggie, try not to be such a zuffa/ufc shill when you cover this event, even though we all know that yahoo is on the ufc payroll, hence the LACK of SF articles and the abundance of UFC "articles," just try to be an MMA fan/journalist

The only advertisements I've seen for the fights this weekend have been for Fedor vs Brett. Any ideas as to why SF wouldn't be promoting some of the other fighters on this card like Shields and Mousasi? I know Fedor has M1 and all that but they should know from Elite XC that you cannot build a promotion on one guy alone. There's plenty of other good fighters on this card that they could promote and build on from this. I think this card is very important for MMA. I think it's important that SF stays around and grows. I know Dana doesn't like having competition and probably doesn't consider SF to be competition but it will only help MMA grow.

Fedor is the best fighter in the world. I had the pleasure of watching him train in Russia last year. Believe me when I tell you that he is an awesome individual. I workout 6 days a week, am a black belt in Jui Jitsu and run 3 marathons a year. I wish my conditioning was half of what Fedor's is!!! Too bad Dana is greedy and won't let him fight Brock. On another note, Shogun Rua won the fight outright!!

I highly doubt Fedor relies on luck or that sweater inside the cage. That being said, Strike Force always does a great job of promoting their fights locally. Their foray into Chicago should be just as effective as their previous efforts in San Jose. They also don't have to promote too much for television, as it is a network fight. Why not put your best foot forward (Fedor) and then advertise fighters who are entertaining the second time around? Despite there being other great fighters on the card, they are just as unknown as Fedor, and not nearly as reliable.

Anyone who knows anything about Russia, and a lot of Europe for that matter, knows that 80s American style is a huge fad in those areas. Fedor isn't wearing it to be tough, he's wearing it to be 'in'.
My prediction for the fight: No matter the numbers, they will drop after the Miller fight. Miller is bringing an audience of 14 year old girls and emo kids who get beat up a lot with him. Fedor is not a draw in widespread America, only those that frequent this type of website know who he is. Strikeforce is putting all of their eggs in just a few baskets, one bad result could sink their future.

Atleast Fedor doesn't wear a Tapout/Affliction shirt where ever he goes. It's nice to see fighters looking respectable and modest, even if it is just because he's wearing a sweater and a pair of jeans. I'd rather see that than another gaudy shirt and some baggy jeans with "BUCK YOU, AND YOUR MOTHER'S A BOAR" stitched into the crotch. Besides, that's a nice sweater, I'd be forced to rock that in the fall, too.

I seriously cant wait for this Saturday to roll around and watch Mayhem destroy Jake the snake Shields, then watch Fedor manhandle Rogers and send him packing back to Sams club. Once he gets a taste of Emelienanko he will know exactly how outclassed he is. I really dont see anyone in SF beating him. No way would Lesnar take him. Sure Brock is bigger and probly stronger, maybe Brett is as well. I know he is bigger at least. Last time I checked Fedor kills bigger dudes with the greatest of ease. Winners Mayhem and Fedor
