In a heavyweight bout between Fabricio Werdum and Antonio "Big Foot" Silva, Werdum outlasted the big man on Strikeforce's first ever bout on CBS. All three judges scored it 29-28 for Fabricio Werdum.

In the first round, Silva knocked down Werdum with a big flurry of punches but couldn't finish him off. Despite that, Silva clearly won the first round, landing punches and knocking Werdum more than once. The times that Werdum was on the ground, Silva didn't follow. Instead, he told Werdum to get back up to continue the fight on their feet.

Werdum finally got it to the ground in the second but couldn't keep Silva there. Back on their feet, Werdum worked the clinch before Werdum got Silva back to the ground and got side control. Werdum quickly rolled into a heel hook, but Silva got out of it.

In the third round, Werdum again was able to take Silva down. When Silva got back up, he tried to land some punches but Werdum dodged them, matrix-style. Werdum landed a knee and Silva went to the ground. The final round ended with Werdum on top of Silva.

For winning this fight, Werdum should have a chance at either the winner of Fedor/Rogers, or eventually, the Strikeforce heavyweight champion, Alistair Overeem.

Werdum should be in line for a title fight after that...? Save yourself the trouble and just add a W to Fedor or Overeem and a L to Werdum, then schedule something interesting to watch. This fight was just odd, almost like two kids in a playground who told "your mother" jokes until they decided to fight, then didn't really want to engage once they did.

Sorry, strike force is not putting on a good show. I keep hoping for them but it is either past primes or way outclassed fights.
They can keep trying to build resumes on their fighters but they really just do not have the ability to put 2 fighters in the cage who can entertain unless you are looking for slo-motion grinds or blatant mis-matches.

Unsilent Majority - I was a little unimpressed by Werdum, but to say the two didn't engage is not true.

I had it 29-28 for Bigfoot. Thought Bigfoot should have finished it in the first round. But even still, though he won round 2 as well.

Tee # 8 - you are totally right bro; don't pay any attention to these UFC Nuthuggers, most of these people are probably employed by Zuffa to bash anything non-ufc in an attempt(failed!) to sway the minds of MMA fans

I think it was a sloppy, ineffective fight by both parties, although I think Silva had the more effective aggression and did enough to get the win. I don't see either as being a top level threat.

I found it entertaining as well. Good decision by the judges, bigfoot clearly dominated the first round. But, Werdum clearly got the slight edge in the second. In the third it just didn't look like Bigfoot wanted to win it, he let Werdum get some clean strikes on him on the ground when he could've defended, and it just didn't look he wanted to win the fight.
I will say, that Silva looked more athletic and like better overall fighter, but Werdum clearly wanted it more, and Bifgoot let it slip away.

Two guys that are evenly match, fight could have easily gone either way without much fan fare. Werdum seem to want it just a tad more. Neither could beat Rogers or Fedor but would be Ok fodder for "Overeen the hasbeen".

I had it 29-28 for Bigfoot as well.. and feel like #8 ... what fight were you guys watching? The only thing that I can agree w/ is that neither seemed to really have that killer instinct to finish the fight ... IDK.. there was a lot of smiling and hugging at the end maybe they are friends or something and didn't really get after each other..but they definitely did engage and showed some good bjj defense and transitions. I only gave Werdum the last round though...

It was close, unlike the other fights tonight. Fedor/Rogers was ok, but without the broken nose just another dominating Fedor win. Mousasi was clearly in control the entire time. First round was kindof sortof intiresting, but Sokoudjou was just lost on the ground. It was pretty damn clearly, he wasn't gonna get the win on a sub, and standup wise it looked like Mousasi was toying with him at once. I missed a large part of Shiles/Mayham but from the scores and reports looks boring and one sided. So this was, probably, the closest, main card, fight. Although Fedor/Rogers would, of course, get a fight of the night.
I felt Werdum was trying to win at the end. Cearly not trying to knock Silva out, but trying to score points. Which he did, and that won him the fight. What Bigfoot was doing? I am not really sure.

This writer is poor. The first several comments are just as poor. This fight was not crazy awesome or anything, but it was worth watching. There was alot of solid MMA skills on display, rather aggressiveness was or not.

i decided to watch this fight again last night because of all the comments saying bigfoot won, the first time i watched it i had it scored for werdum.....and the second time i watched it guess what.......SAME.
bigfoot clearly won the first round. that was his round. he fought his fight, dropped werdum, bullied him around, had him on the run and didn't allow him to play his game. second round, not so much. bigfoot flurried early while backpedaling and werdum's head got clipped and he dropped for a moment...other than that werdum made the rest of that round belong to him. it took place on his terms, he was a little more of the aggressor in the 2nd but definitely controlled the cage and decided where the fight took place. he did not allow bigfoot to impliment his game...bigfoot also didn't help his cause by failing to be the aggressor as in the first. since there was little to no damage done in the second you have to base it on these things. the third round was pretty stagnant for the first couple minutes as well but the positions again were controlled by werdum for over half the round, and towards the end werdum landed some good shots standing then ended up controlling with gnp till nearly the end. 29-28 for werdum...no problem.

I enjoyed this fight more than the Fedor vs. Rogers fight. I found it amuzing that the announcers avoided the issue of why Silva went to Japan for a year (as if the cro-magnon forehead didn't give it away). But, of course thats not going to be mentioned in the broadcast. Anyway, the fight was a great exchange of both striking and ground-game. Though, Werdum was clearly more skilled on the ground he could not overcome Silva's raw strength. I did like at the end how both fighter's patted each other on the back, congratulating each other on a good fight. Werdum vs. Fedor? I have to agree that Werdum won't likely last any longer than Rogers.
