ESPN did a nice piece on UFC heavyweight prospect and former WWE wrestler Brock Lesnar. He indicated that one of the reasons he left wrestling was a borderline addiction to drinking and pain pills. The E60 piece done by Tom Farrey had a nice storybook feeling to it until the interviewer decided to ask Lesnar a question about steroids. Our favorite Brock, Cantankerous Brock, came to the surface as he stormed off the interview set. Lesnar is heard off-camera yelling:
"I have never failed a (expletive) drug test."
The former NCAA Division I wrestling champ does look considerably smaller now than he did when wrestled for Vince McMahon. Though part of that is a necessity because the upper limit for heavyweights in MMA is 265 lbs. Lesnar naturally walks around at 290 lbs. and probably wrestled professionally in excess of 300.
Snippy Brock made an appearance later in the piece. I doesn't take much to set the off the big guy. Lesnar was told about a Randy Couture comment saying that he's stronger now than he was 10 years ago. Lesnar responded:
"My ass he is. I'm 31 and I'm not as strong as I was 10 years ago. That's a straight up lie."
Farrey's question about steroids was perfectly acceptable. Lesnar's reaction was childish. I doubt he knows Farrey. If he did then I could understand why he was squeamish around the question. Afterall, it was Farrey who sandbagged Miguel Tejada about his age.

Juice will be around for along time some might turn there away from it and live a normal living life without the help of drugs some use it to get fame and fortune. Sports see this as a money maker especially if he or she is a rising star for whom ever they work for.
UFC has done there part to keep that kind of reputation out of there sport and takes action for it so this will no longer happen. So until Brock is foind guilt and comes out possitive i don't believe he's used and i'm sticking to that until otherwise.

I'll be pulling for Couture but I'm not sure he can pull it off.
Ryan p, I had a political reply to send back to you about your Bush comment but I don't think you're worth one. This is an MMA blog and I won't get started with political views here.

I am sure Lesnar has used roids. I wouldn't be surprised if he still is. It is pretty easy to get undetectable roids. Any chemist worth their salt can whip a roid like ' the clear '.. Remember they can only test for what they have a precedent for.. Hong Kong is full of 'pharmacists' that will whip you up a 'cocktail' that is totally undetectable. Judging from Lesnar's b$tchy outbursts, I would say he is most def juiced..

I can't deny your take on Lesnar using steroids. And Brock saying "I've never failed a fuking drug test" is NOT exactly a strong denial if you think about it.

As for roids. I dont see how guys could train and compete in most any contact sport and not use them.

I think Randy can counter Lesnar's wrestling. It all hinges on if Randy can not get hit coming in. If Randy gets Lesnar down, Randy will GNP Lesnar. If they clinch, they will negate each other's wrestling and Randy will dirty box him to death. Randy has the experience in wars, Lesnar doesn't. I give Randy a better than 50/50 shot at winning. Win or lose, I can't wait to see it.

look, either make them legal and let everyone do them, or start including blood tests and don't let anyone do them. i don't care about steroids at all, but as long as there are some people playing by the rules and abstaining from them while others partake, then we have an unlevel field.

To Great White: I'm not directly disagreeing with you about it being possible for Randy to out-wrestle Brock, because anything can happen in MMA and Randy never ceases to amaze me. However, assuming both of their wrestling abilities are about equal, Brock still has a 40-plus lbs. weight and strength advantage. I wasn't the best wrestler in highschool but if I practiced with teamates who were much worse than me, but they were still 30 lbs. heavier, they'd give me all kinds of problems. When I practiced with guys who's skill level was the same as mine and they were 30 lbs. heavier than me, they kicked my ass. Bad. Randy is much heavier than me, so the 40-plus lbs. he'll give up to Brock won't be as big of a percentage of his body weight, but you get the idea.
And after watching Brock take down Heath Herring with ease everytime they locked up, I have the feeling that Randy will be spending a lot of time on his back, which is a bad place to be against Brock if you're not a BJJ expert like Mir.

i have to somewhat defend vince mcmahon and wwe- they do now (since the benoit incident) have a "wellness" policy in place that covers everything from steroids to painkillers to legal bodybuilding supplements. i don't know the specifics of the policy; but many of their top stars are suspended quite frequently for violating. however, they didn't have any such program (to my knowledge) during brock's time with the company... so he was probably on something. i do know that ufc is much stricter about steroid and supplement use- so i'd seriously doubt it now.

it gets old really quick when u dedictate ur whole life to any sport or fitness program- including the training for it; and it always seems to be the people who refuse to fully dedicate themselves to such a program that doubt u. It's very easy to sit there with a pad and pencil (a reporter) and talk about being an athlete... it's much harder to actually be one. So even though Brock could've handled that interview better (everybody knows he's wound a little tight- including the interviewer), I understand how he feels taking crap like that from some pencil necked reporter, who's (being from espn) prob. just trying to smear u and ur sport anyway, cuz that's the only attention espn gives mma.

normally, I would almost always give an olympic wrestler the edge over a collegiate wrestler... but there (obviously) isn't much at all 'normal' about brock lesnar. For starters- he's a rich, famous professional athlete driving a chevy aveo (WTF?)
But seriously- Brock was one of few collegiate wrestlers who easily could've gone to the olympics had he wanted to; but instead chose the fame and fortune of "pro" wrestling. I think Lesnar is equal to, if not superior to Couture in every aspect of this fight but experience. And his youth, speed, and overwhelming power will compensate for that. The only way brock loses is by getting overzealous and making a mistake, and randy's old a** being quick enough to capitalize on it...
