Landon Donovan Could Miss New England Match: Fan’s Reaction

The Los Angeles Galaxy got some bad news on March 29 when Landon Donovan was not able to participate in training. According to Galaxy manager Bruce Arena, Donovan sat out due to a quadriceps injury. Arena said that he would have more information about Donovan's injury on Friday. He did say that Donovan might not be able to play on March 31 when the Galaxy host the New England Revolution at the Home Depot Center. The match will be the first for our side in two weeks.

Our side's captain has had some minor injury or illness virtually the entire time since his return from a preseason loan to Everton. Despite those potential setbacks, Donovan hasn't missed any matches. Galaxy midfielder David Beckham said about Donovan's injury, "He's got a slight problem, but it's not a big issue. We have to be careful with players and little niggles they pick up." Beckham isn't worried about the depth issue either if Donovan can't play. "I've spoke to him a couple of times and it's just precaution that he's pulling out training. If he's not all right, we've got players who will step in and do the job. His health is the most important part."

In two MLS matches this season, Donovan has one assist. Donovan also scored the game-tying goal against Toronto FC in the first leg of the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal. Of those other players who could step in for Donvoan whom Beckham referred to, one I'd like to see get a chance to start is newcomer Marcelo Sarvas.

Sarvas started against Real Salt Lake before being subbed off. He was also subbed on late in the D.C. United match and scored L.A.'s third goal to put the match out of reach. The Brazilian was brought over during the offseason before Juninho was re-signed. After Juninho was retained, that meant Beckham and Juninho were in the central midfield and Sarvas would have to fight to get minutes. Now, Sarvas might have his shot to make another impression on Arena against a New England side L.A. should beat.
