Soehn out as DC United coach

WASHINGTON (AP)—D.C. United says Tom Soehn has withdrawn from consideration to stay on as the team’s coach after three seasons.

Soehn’s contract expires at the end of 2009, and the team says on its Web site it will start searching for a replacement immediately.

United was 36-30-24 in Major League Soccer matches under Soehn. He went 55-48-31 in all competitions.

The team went 9-8-13 this season and missed the playoffs.

to Anthony L - no impact in the US Open Cup?, they finished second, losing to Seattle in the finals, I would say that's a nice impact, and no this is not the first time out of the playoffs, they've missed the posteason 5 times in their 13 years: 2000, 2001, 2002, 2008, 2009

This was obviously the right thing to do. i mean, DC United have always been one of the best teams in MLS and now they are faltering. They had an early exit in the CONCACAF CL. They didnt really make an impact on the US Open Cup and this has to be like the first time DC United have ever missed the playoffs.
