Toluca gets 1-1 draw on second-half penalty

MEXICO CITY (AP)—Israel Lopez’s 62nd-minute penalty lifted Mexican club Toluca to a 1-1 draw with D.C. United in the CONCACAF Champions League on Tuesday.

Chris Pontius scored for the Americans in the fifth minute.

The draw gives Toluca 13 points and first place in Group B in the final round of group games.

D.C. United have 10 points. The U.S. club will have to wait until Thursday’s Group B match between Marathon of Honduras and Jabloteh of Trinidad to know if it finishes second and advances to the quarterfinals.

Marathon has nine points. If it draws, D.C. United advances because United has a better goal difference in their two head-to-head matches.

Marathon will claim second place and eliminate the Americans with a victory.
