With Jarrod Washburn in the closer's role and Miguel Cairo filling in for a suspended slugger, the Seattle Mariners avoided a sweep. Cairo had a two-out RBI single in the 12th inning, then Washburn finished for his first career save as the Mariners beat Texas 4-3 on Wednesday for only their third victory in 15 games. ...More |

Third baseman Hank Blalock's attempt to make a quick comeback from a partially torn left hamstring has hit a snag.
The hamstring tightened up Thursday as Blalock was getting ready to begin a rehab assignment with Class AA Frisco. He was scratched from the lineup and will be re-evaluated Friday.
Blalock, out since April 26, had hoped to play just one game for Frisco and be back in the Rangers' lineup. The club had originally indicated Blalock's injury would likely take three to six weeks to heal. Friday would be just three weeks since he suffered the injury. It's likely Thursday's incident may push back the start of the rehab assignment and may necessitate him playing multiple games once he starts, so he can prove the hamstring is capable of handling the work. ...More |
