Lance Berkman is going to ride this hitting tear he's on as long as possible. Same goes for Houston manager Cecil Cooper, who continues to be amazed by his club's gutsy play. Berkman splashed his major league-leading 15th home run into McCovey Cove to break a ninth-inning tie, helping the Astros rally past the San Francisco Giants 8-7 on Thursday for their 11th win in 13 games. ...More |

Predictions for the Giants coming into the season usually mentioned last place, and sometimes 100 losses.
But the Giants are in third place, ahead of Colorado and Los Angeles, and that has general manager Brian Sabean thinking positive. He told the San Francisco Chronicle he believes the team can contend this season.
"As long as we've got a chance to stay in and around third place, why not?" Sabean told the Chronicle. "Why wouldn't you want to think that way? These guys think that way.
"Between what people thought of us and how we're actually performing, I think these guys have a lot to be proud of."
