Broadcaster and former Mets first baseman Keith Hernandez and shortstop Jose Reyes were all damage control when word of their verbal confrontation on a team charter came to light.

Reyes was upset with Hernandez's comments about him slamming his glove down last weekend after he made a poor throw to Carlos Delgado.

Hernandez said: "Well, he's got to get over that. Enough babying going on now. He's a grown man. He's been around a long enough time. Take off the kid gloves."

Reyes said he wasn't trying to show up Delgado, whom manager Jerry Manuel said should have made the play, but his anger was directed at himself.

"I was mad at myself," Reyes said. "I was upset with what he said.
