Jose Guillen has been the designated hitter for the past five games because of a strained right hip flexor, but the Royals are hopeful he'll be healthy enough to play the outfield for a three-game series beginning Friday at Florida, where there won't be a DH.

"I can't say I expect it, but I'm hoping," manager Trey Hillman said. "Jose was going to try to push and play left (Thursday). That's when I kind of moved. He was going to go out and try to test it and I just pulled the reins on that. I said, 'I don't think that's the prudent thing to do right now.' We're going to play our first interleague games and we need you in left. Let's sit on the DH slot one more day."

Guillen homered and had three RBIs in the Royals' 8-4 victory Thursday over Detroit.
