Matt Holliday homered and drove in four runs and Joe Koshansky hit his first major league homer as the injury-riddled Rockies won their season-best fifth straight, 12-6 over the Florida Marlins on Saturday night. Chris Iannetta and Brad Hawpe also connected for Colorado one night after the Rockies went deep six times.

This trip for the 15-day disabled list cuts a little deeper for Troy Tulowitzki and the Colorado Rockies. Just three weeks after returning from a torn thigh tendon that cost him 46 games, the Rockies' enigmatic shortstop sliced his right palm when his pounded his maple bat into the ground in frustration and it shattered.

The blasts returned to Coors Field long before the fireworks. In a throwback to the pre-humidor days, Colorado homered six times and beat the Florida Marlins 18-17 on Friday night after trailing by nine runs in the biggest comeback in Rockies history. Chris Iannetta singled home the winning run off Kevin Gregg in the ninth inning.

Todd Helton's bad back and Willy Taveras' pulled thigh muscle made both of them spectators at Coors Field long before the fireworks lit up the mountain skies Thursday night. Their replacements put on quite a show in their absence. Jeff Baker drove in four runs and Ryan Spilborghs hit a two-run single in the 11th inning to rally the Colorado Rockies past the Florida Marlins 6-5.

The Colorado Rockies missed an early chance to blow open Wednesday's game. They didn't waste their second opportunity. Garrett Atkins' three-run homer capped a four-run second inning, and Troy Tulowitzki and Yorvit Torrealba homered to help the Rockies beat the San Diego Padres 8-1. The Rockies took the final two games of the series after blowing a five-run lead Monday night and losing, 15-8.

Aaron Cook made a strong case for a possible spot on the All-Star roster as the manager of the National League squad watched with delight. Cook tossed a five-hitter for the first shutout of his career, and the Colorado Rockies ended an eight-game losing streak with a 4-0 victory over the San Diego Padres on Tuesday night.

The Colorado Rockies recalled left-handed reliever Cedrick Bowers from Triple-A Colorado Springs on Tuesday and optioned right-hander Ryan Speier. Bowers was 4-1 with a 2.97 ERA and 45 strikeouts in 39.1 innings for the Sky Sox this season. He appeared in 16 games, starting two. Bowers gives the Rockies a second left-hander in their bullpen, joining closer Brian Fuentes.

San Diego put the game out of reach with a big ninth inning, preventing Colorado from pulling off any late comeback at Coors Field this time around. Edgar Gonzalez's second homer of the game capped San Diego's seven-run ninth as the Padres ended their eight-game losing streak with a 15-8 victory over the Rockies on Monday night.

Dane Sardinha felt like a goat after grounding into a rally-killing double play. That made it all the better when his first major league hit made him a hero. Sardinha hit a two-run triple to rally the Tigers to a 4-3 win over the woeful Colorado Rockies on Sunday, giving Detroit a three-game sweep and a winning record for the first time this season.

The Detroit Tigers had a long, hard road to .500 this season, and the culmination didn't come easy Saturday night. Miguel Cabrera hit a two-run double in the bottom of the ninth and Detroit overcame Todd Jones' blown save to beat the Colorado Rockies 7-6. With their fourth straight win and 14th in 17 games, the Tigers improved to .500 for the first time this season.

The Detroit Tigers are close to the break-even point. Eddie Bonine limited Colorado to five hits over eight innings to lift Detroit to a 7-1 win over the Rockies on Friday night. Curtis Granderson was 4-for-5 with two triples and stretched his career-high hitting streak to 15 games for the Tigers, who have won three straight, 14 of their last 18 and are one game under .500 for the first time since...

As a kid in Colorado, Luke Hochevar rooted for the Rockies. On Wednesday night, he took a different approach against them. The 24-year-old rookie pitched a career-high eight innings, Ross Gload drove in two runs and the Kansas City Royals beat the Rockies 4-2 night for their fifth straight victory. "There's still some guys still playing that I grew up watching," Hochevar said.

Zack Greinke is developing into a strikeout pitcher at age 24. The right-hander matched a career high with 10 strikeouts and Alex Gordon hit a two-run homer as the surging Kansas City Royals beat the Colorado Rockies 7-3 Tuesday night. "When there are runners on base, that's the only time I really try to strike anybody out, at least from the first pitch," Greinke said.

Brian Bannister cuts to the chase with his disdain for issuing free passes: "I like walks about as much as I like high gas prices." He matched a career high with six of them Monday night, but didn't allow a hit until the fifth inning. Mark Teahen hit a three-run homer and the Kansas City Royals beat the Colorado Rockies 8-4 for their eighth win in nine games.

A week of turmoil ended on a high note for the New York Mets. Mike Pelfrey carried a shutout into the sixth inning, Carlos Beltran hit a two-run homer and the Mets beat the Colorado Rockies 3-1 on Sunday to wrap up a winning road trip under interim manager Jerry Manuel. He took over for the fired Willie Randolph after the Mets beat the Los Angeles Angels to open a six-game trip last Monday.
