Cabrera hit two homers for his first time with Detroit and finished 4-for-4, helping the Tigers beat the Cleveland Indians 9-2.

The Cleveland Indians moved reliever Scott Elarton to the 15-day disabled list Tuesday for what the club called a non-baseball medical condition. The right-hander was placed on the restricted list June 30 after telling manager Eric Wedge he needed to leave the team for personal reasons. Elarton (0-1) has appeared in eight games this season.

The Indians had a scheduled off day Monday, but it was still one of the more noteworthy days in the history of the franchise. The Indians conceded their chances of contending for a division title in 2008 are over, and they traded ace CC Sabathia to Milwaukee for four minor leaguers.

The trade takes the reigning Cy Young Award winner out of the Indians' rotation, which figures to be makeshift at best in the second half of the season. With Sabathia traded and Jake Westbrook and Fausto Carmona both on the disabled list, the Indians are left with just two pitchers from their Opening Day rotation: Cliff Lee and Paul Byrd.

Left-hander Jeremy Sowers will start in place of Sabathia Tuesday night in Detroit.
