Terry Francona's return to managing had to wait another day when Friday night's series opener between the Boston Red Sox and Milwaukee Brewers was postponed by rain. The skipper of the AL All-Star team did, however, add managers Joe Girardi of the New York Yankees and Jim Leyland of the Detroit Tigers to his coaching staff for that game against the NL on July 15. ...More |

Fenway Park has long been a haven for hustling, gritty ballplayers and hardball cult heroes, and one of Boston's most beloved will make his triumphant return this weekend when the Brewers visit for an interleague series. Gabe Kapler left a job managing within the Red Sox organization this season and signed with the Milwaukee Brewers as a free agent outfielder. There were unsubstantiated reports of ruffled feathers within the Red Sox organization when the intense Kapler left managing after a period of contemplation, but Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein had nothing but positives when asked about his former Class A Greenville Drive skipper.
