MLB - Sports Rumors

“EricThe New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies have until 10 a.m. Eastern tomorrow to set their rosters for the World Series and the rumor is that both could make some slight alterations.

The Yankees are apparently flip-flopping between adding left-handed hitter Eric Hinske(notes) or a 12th pitcher, according to the New York Post. The pitcher in question is supposedly right-handed reliever Brian Bruney(notes). "You could see us with 12 pitchers and you could see us change our roster," Yanks general manager Brian Cashman coyly told the Post.

Meanwhile, there's a rumor in Philly that reliever Brett Myers(notes) might be back on the roster because the team can use as many pitching arms as it can get.

anyone is better than freddy guzman. bruney and hinske are both major league caliber players.
myers, if fully recovered from injury, will be a great asset as well. drop bruntlett. he's useless.

I'd love to see Bret Myers on the World Series roster. He has meant so much for the Phillies over the years and deserves to be part of the repeat. Good luck! Brett.

    Morning Hooter,
I would add Bruney. If it wasn't for injuries he would have been the 8th inning man & we wouldnt have seen what Hughes has. Bruney has GAS & a 90 mph slider. Yankees in 6.

Eric Hinske brings his Tampa Bay playoff experience with him to the World Series. His leadership will be important to the many Yankees who are first timers.

I'd be afraid of Bruney at this point--he didn't pitch in either the ALDS or the ALCS. But at the same time Damaso Marte frightens me.
If the Yanks want both Hinske and Bruney, my opinion would be to sit Marte...

Man alive! Both Alex and Johnny came through big in the playoffs! Sabathia (Bay Area boy, by the way) came up big!
    Good luck, tonight!

I would add both. Drop Guzman and Hairston Jr. Hinske is what we need in the NL game off the bench and Bruney might be needed if Joba and Hughes still aren't right.

    Artist,
They need to keep Harrison due to his versatility. He is both Cano & Jeters backup. Guzman plays OF. We wont need Guzman at all. Who cares- Yankees in 6.
    Hooter,
Thanks. Right now ARod is playing like he should be. He is showing that he is still the best all around player in the game.

If they add Bruney, I only want to see him come in if the Yankees have a 5+ run lead and they decide to save a starters arm a few innings of work. I do not trust him worth a dime this season.

Phillies have to much hitting, defense, pitching, and intangibles for the Yankess. I may be going out on a limb on this one but I'll say Phillies over the Yankees in 5.

this year is Yankee destiny like i have said from the begining..anyone thinking any other team would win this postseason does not understand how life works..there is a thing called 'destiny' and every so often it happens..the Angels had no chance and now the Phillies have no chance..Yankees in 6 games.
    27 time World Champions.
the greatest sports franchise in history.
god bless George M. Steinbrenner and the New York Yankees.

Hinkse might be a good addition, after the Angels walked A-Rod because Gardner was behind him and all they had to counter was Hairston.......They have Gaudin and barely used him, how many mop-up guys do you need?

I don't see AROD hitting the same way in the Fall Classic as he has been for the playoffs thus far. They'll pitch him inside a lot more and make him a lot more uncomfortable at the plate. AROD will need to adjust to that. His success at the plate will depend on that. Phillies did a very good job of pitching to Manny inside a lot more.

I would add Hinske for sure..he is an underrated hitter who could PH in NL games.
As for Bruney he wasnt very good in the 2nd half and I would keep Marte for the left matchups. Both Marte and Coke will be keys to the series if the Yanks have a lead when Howard, Victorino, Ibanez, Utley all bat...yes the can hit lefties but the match up of lefty vs lefty is a little better to me...I would have Coke pitch to Howard rather than Joba or Hughes.. Id save Joba or Hughes for Werth & Feliz and Ruiz

Bring back Whitey Ford. That will give you some real experience in the pen. The guy probably knows, better than any active player, how to pitch with a hangover.

That makes more sense. Bruney has been more unrelaible than the Phillies' closer this season and that's saying a lot. To expect Bruney to make a miraculous turnaround would be very naive and ignorant on the part of the Yankess.
