MLB - Sports Rumors

“NickNew York Yankees right fielder Nick Swisher(notes) had a tough postseason at the plate but still got to celebrate at the end of the whole shebang when his team became the World Series champions. Word came out yesterday that the team was supposedly making the switch hitter available on the trading block, leading some to believe that he could have been part of a package for the Toronto Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay(notes), who the Yanks are rumored to be interested in bringing to the Bronx.

However, an exec on the team has apparently told the New York Post that Swisher isn't going anywhere and the Yankees are very happy with having him out in right field.

So now Swisher can just go ahead and relax and get that tattoo he was planning to get this winter to honor his departed grandfather that will match the one that he has on his chest in honor of his grandmother. The pair basically raised him after his folks got divorced.

Nick Swisher inspired the Yanks to their first World Series in 10 years. Nick Swisher used to point to heaven every time he hit a homerun, in memory of his grandparents, who helped raise him. Glad the Yanks have enough sense to keep him. He's a good man and an inspiration.

    Good morning, christine
Why do you think he will be traded now? Miller is usually (about 2 or 3 times out of 10) right on!

I like Nick but outfielders the Yankees have. Starting pitching, not so much. Hard to quantify the intangible he brings in the "have fun" and play department.

Well here the Yankees go buying Jason Bay AND Holliday, and then trading for Halladay. They might as well buy Mauer's contract right now and put Posada as their DH.

I don't think he makes enough moolah to be a true Yankee.

Yanks need an outfield..period! Damon is a great offensive player, can get to the ball in left but his arm is poor and teams always capitalize on that weakness. Melky is getting better but I don't see an all star in the making. Gardner can only run and field...his bat is pathetic. He can't hit MLB pitching..yet. Where does it leave them? Swisher is the only legit outfielder they have right now.

swish is a commodity in the dugout, he has soul and heart and not a terrible bat..the postseason aside, he had a decent year, but his attitude is more than enough to want to keep him around.

I think Swisher is a key player on the team. He brought life to the clubhouse and team. He's young, energetic, and helps create a great atmosphere. You heard analyst say all season long that the Yankees just looked like they were having fun, and I think Swisher is a major reason why. He may not be the most talent player, but what he lacks in talent, he makes up for in desire, support, and attitude. He's a player that any team would welcome because of his positive outlook. He's a player others gravitate towards because he doesn't ever seem to be down, even in the midst of a playoff slump. Without him and AJ, the Yankees would've been a good team still, but would've lacked the young spirit.

If the Yankees are thinking of trading Swisher, I'd guess that they feel they have a good shot at signing Bay and/or Holliday. I like Swisher, and hope he stays. But the Yankees have four outfielders including Damon, none of whom should be every day players in a major league outfield.

Keep Swish! He truly added to the positive chemistry of this year's champs. His personality, and his good offensive output during the regular season, helped us to the postseason. If you don't get there, you don't have a chance to win it all! Keep the outfield as it is for 2010...with an upgrade in the starting pitching department, the team may not have to rely on his arm to keep the score close. Pitching and defense wins championships.

there's only 162 games in a season einstein, unless you think they're going to be so good that their record will be mathematically impossible.
