MLB - Sports Rumors

“DavidThere was a time when Jose Cruz Jr.(notes) seemed like a very hot prospect. Now he hasn't played in the bigs since 2008, but when he was with the Toronto Blue Jays from 1997 to 2002, he apparently could have brought the team a few players that may have made a big difference in the Great White North.

ESPN's Keith Law was an assistant to former Blue Jays general manager JP Ricciardi and he shared yesterday that a few teams tried to snag Cruz from the Blue Jays and offered some folks that became big names. The new York Mets apparently wanted to hand over David Wright(notes) for Cruz and Ricciardi said, "I'm not trading a major league player for some guy in the (Low Class-A) Sally League."

Another player the Blue Jays could have had for Cruz was Rafael Soriano(notes), but the Blue Jays wanted the Seattle Mariners to throw in Clint Nageotte(notes) in order to bring Cruz back to the Northwest where he had started his career.

Ricciardi obviously didn't go for either trade and Cruz eventually left the team to join the San Francisco Giants.

I remember when Jose Cruz Jr.came up with the Mariners. Along with Alex Rodriquez, and Ken Griffey Jr., they were going to be the best threesome of ballplayers around. Well, Jose never lived up to his billing, and was traded to Toronto. Alex went on to fame and fortune, and Griffey Jr. wanted to play for the Reds, where he ended up hurt most of the time.

    Artist,
That Rally Monkey is really annoying! Why do they have to ruin a good game with that irratating primate! It irks me as much as the Brave's Tomahawk! I'm sure glad the Braves and Angels never were in a World Series together. I would shoot the TV set after a couple of innings!

Really, Tila Tequila of all people?
A non deal I'm sure the Jays would have like to have done now!
I'm just glad the Giants weren't dumb enough to go with the Rios for Lincecum rumor that circulated around 2 years ago.

#10 shrk33... agree on everything (especially Tila, lol). I'm glad Sabes kept Timmy off limits. Cain too - his name also surfaced in a potential Rios deal.
#9 DJ... that would be sick, but I wouldn't put to much into it. At least not yet.

This kinda writing is unfair by an angry KLaw who thought he should be the GM. JCJ was coming off a career year and a stud. Wright was a 19 year old who was not exactly lighting the world on fire in A ball.

When Jose played in LA, he always came off as a genuinely intelligent and nice guy in interviews. He didn't play very well, so he loses out in comparisons to other sons of MLB players like Pujols and Alou. But I always thought about how his father did the right thing by raising him here in the U.S. instead of leaving him in poverty and illiteracy in his home country like those others. Sure, PR is a US commonwealth, so it may not be such a lousy place to live as other latin countries. Then there's Torrealba, who had to have his son kidnapped before he wised up and brought him north of the border.

How about this one... Back in 04' or whatever year we inked VW to that heaaving deal the Dodgers were in talks with the Jays to get Billinglsey/Broxton and Matt Kemp... another deal that never materialized....
    Imagine if the Jays had:
    Broxton/Billingsley
    Lincecum
    Kemp
    Wright
baha... that is why JP is without job....
remember... we work hard because JP Ricciardi is on welfare and depends on us
