MLB - Sports Rumors

“MarkThe rumor yesterday that Mark Teahan should might as well pack his bags and head to the airport because the Kansas City Royals had traded him to the Chicago White Sox for second baseman Chris Getz(notes) and third baseman/outfielder Josh Fields(notes).

But that deal isn't apparently finished just yet, according to the Kansas City Star. And it might never be. As of midnight last night, none of the players had supposedly been informed of the trade.

"We're in discussions with a lot of clubs about a lot of things," Royals general manager Dayton Moore told the Star. "There is nothing to announce yet, and we won't comment (about trade rumors) until there is something to announce." Drat!

Your first sentence is a run-on, and includes the phrase "should might as well". As in, "Mark Miller should might as well finish that GED course at the Adult Education Center."

Not only that, he can't spell Teahen's last name.

Mark Teahan was one of the few bright spots for Kansas City, last season. Greinke the other. Teahan filled in well at third with Gordon hurt. Teahan isn't a superstar like Beltran, Damon, or Sweeney, but he's a good, reliable journeyman who will consistantly win games for you. Also, very versatile. Tell me its a rumor!

Teahan has been an underachiever his entire career. I think Getz is the jewel of this deal. He was a rookie last year and he didn't embarass himself. He's got good speed and is good defensively. Those are two things the Royals need in their lineup. Callaspo can hit but is just plain bad defensively and has no speed. He will soon be dealt too.

Actually, a really bad move for KC. Getz does not hit well, especially compared to Alberto Callaspo the current 2nd basemen. And while i like Josh Fields.. I think Gordon's got a much higher potential. KC needs a solid setup guy.. we lose our games trying to get from our starter to our closer... AND... more power.. We need to be able to score more runs... These two guys don't help KC at all... Our GM Moore needs to focus on our needs... Other than dumping a salary... if your gonna dump salary.. dump Jose Guillen. He's close to worthless!

Chris Getz has far too much potential to even consider this trade, but Fields needs to be dealt away. He's become a man without a position, and can do good for someone who can play him every day. He'll probably never be a super star, but let's face it...neither is Teahen. As BEN S said...an underachiever.

    #8,
You're right, this is a really bad move....for CHICAGO! Giving up two decent young players for a guy who's OPS hasn't cracked .765 the last 3 seasons is a TERRIBLE move, especially if the early reports are true about the Sox plans to use Teahen in RF.
This deal makes zero sense for the Sox. You can do better in RF than Teahen. Heck, could have traded those two for Hermida. Would have been way, way better for them considering Hermida's road splits and younger age (and smaller price tag).
Now, if the plan is to use Teahen at 3B and Beckham at 2B then the deal makes a bit more sense, as Teahen only good year came as a regular 3B. But why pay Teahen all that money? Why not go for broke and throw twice as much at Figgins who could play the same positions AND hit leadoff for them?
Also, Fields has shown he can hit for power in the MLs. Teahen never has hit 20 HRs in his career and in 2008 had 7! Fields could fit at DH for the Royals if they let Jacobs go (which seems likely).
This is a brilliant move for the Royals, period.

I'm sure the Royals would love to find someone to take on Guillen's salary, but that isn't gonna happen. We're stuck with him. Callaspo struggled at second and he doesn't have the arm to move to short or third. Sure, we'd love to have a good young power hitter, but that's not in the budget. Teahan is a good utility guy, but the Royals have Bloomquist to fill that role. Getz has the most up side of the three players in the trade. I think dealing Soria for a true center fielder/ leadoff man or makeing him a starter makes sense this year.

I hope this deal gets done. Good for KC. He may be a very versatile/dependable super-utility guy, but he's due for a pay raise to about 5 mil. That's alot for a utility guy. Now to unload Guillen.......

I believe it to be a fragment, not a run-on. But very poorly constructed, nonetheless.

fields is a bum in my opinion. he will never get close to his homer total that one year. he is not all that great at the hot corner and wont get past a 250 BA on a regular basis. he needs to go. getz is a good young player though, sox need to keep him.

SOX suck no matter what. Kenny Williams always makes stupid trades that don't make sense. Last year he had Getz playing second ( even though he is a third baseman), ALexei Ramirez playing short (even though he is a second baseman), and Beckham playing third (even though he is a shortstop). Does Williams even know what positions they play before making a deal??? White Sox are a joke of a team that even their fans don't care about, as shown by their attendance to games.

Looks like those idiots in Tampa Bay (St. Petersburg) are at it again. This time they chose to rid the team of the wrong catcher. Greg Zaun should have replaced Dionner Navarro, but hey ... it's not my team. They also picked up the 10 mil option on Crawford, which probably means they'll trade him just before the season opens or just prior to the trade deadline. The next time the Devil (oops ... don't want those religious fanatics getting angry, so just the Rays please) Rays win a championship will probably coincide with the end of the world.
