Phillies stealing Yankees' signs?

“ShanePhiladelphia Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino(notes) is not happy with one of the team's former managers, Larry Bowa. Not happy one little bit. Bowa apparently said that the Phils are sign stealers and the New York Yankees apparently agree with him. That would explain why Jorge Posada(notes) is using seven billion signs even when nobody is on base.

Last night, Victorino let it be known that his team isn't cheating and that Bowa has no idea what he's talking about, according to the New York Post. "I guess he knows something that I don't know about, obviously," Victorino said. "You know, everybody makes excuses. Everybody is going to find a reason. For Bowa to come out and say something like that if he doesn't know what he's talking about, if he doesn't have cold, hard facts, he shouldn't say something like that.

The New York Mets actually had the sneaking suspicion that the team was stealing signs back in 2007 and even using a video camera in center field to do so. The Mets went so far as to ask the league to investigate, which ended up going nowhere.

Plus, if the team was cheating and stealing signs, they sure aren't doing a good job of using the info. As Victorino points out, it didn't exactly help them win Games 3 or 4.

This sign stealing accusation may explain why yankee batters were asking for time out..Why is it cheating if your battery is not smart enough to decoy

Victorino is the most annoying person in baseball. I give him 3-4 more seasons before his testes are shriveled and nerves are shot from the roids and greenies he's slamming. Just another prematurely balding over-caffeinated blow-hard on a team full of trash-talkers.

Wow Mr Bojangles, coming from a fan of a team that includes KNOWN ROID users, A-Fraud, Clemens, Pettite, Giambi, etc... Sounds like you may need some sedatitives. Just so you know, EVERY TEAM trys to steal the others signs, it's called getting an edge on the opponent. In case you didn't realize it, there playing for the championship. All's fair in love and war, including throwing gobs of money around like it's confetti to buy all the best players every year.

You want to route for the Phillies, because they are the underdog and the people of Philly are good deserving sports fans, but this team with Rollins, Victorino, and a number of other loud mouths are so unlikeable, its almost impossible.

The Yankees lost games? With their infinite payroll? With their performance-enhanced third baseman? How can that be? It must be cheating--there's no other possible explanation. The Yankees lost games? Let the whining begin!

It would not surprise me if they were stealing signs. It didn't surprise me when New England was caught cheating and it does not surprise me here. Phillies have always been a dirty team, well I would say they have been dirty since Schimdt retire. And, I am sure that Bowa soes know because he probably taught them how to it. He is an a** too.

One one fact, it is not the Yankees who brought this to everyone's attention it was Bowa. So before all the haters and Phillie excuses come out, call like it is. Don't jump on the "I hate A-Rod" bandwagon, just call Bowa an a** and get over it.

This whole sign-stealing thing is a joke. When they made a big deal that Mauer was stealing signs, it was the same thing. If they can do it, more power to them. It's part of every sport. I find it funny that everybody professes to be so shocked - although if I knew my guys would be a target for the opposing pitchers for it, I suppose I'd profess shock too. It seems to me a lot like the outrage over missed calls. Everybody complains, but not too loudly, because they remember times when their team benefited. So Yankees fans are outraged over Howard's non-catch, but forget about Mauer's clear fair ball down the line. It's sports fans that are funny.

Sign-stealing is as old as the game; what's the big deal if the Phils are doing that? At least it would level playing field against the Best Team Money Can Buy.

If the Yankees suffer from stolen signs, shame on them. That's baseball. The Yankees have the $. Why don't they just BUY their signs back?

So far its been a great series. If the Phils have the Yanks signs , more power to them, they still have to execute. Yanks almost had another come back. That has to have the Phils and their fans on edge. Would love to see Andy close the door tomorrow. It would be great to see him win the game, hes paid his dues. Can t help but notice how Rollins and Utley close up the middle, seems like they get to every ball hit there. On the other side, wheres Cano? Cano is also lost at the plate, sad for a guy who had over 200 hits. Keep Rollins off the bases and win the game. remember Figgins ? Utley looks unstoppable, anyone feel foolish for saying the 2nd base match up was even? Yanks in 6, Pedro comes out strong ,then wilts.

Wow, Phillie fans have come back out of the woodwork today. I was on every article yesterday and they were few and far between, now they are back spewing their BS because they were able to hold on to by their fingernails what should have been a very easy win. You guys know Bowa better than anyone so you should know he's a guy who calls it like he sees it. Complain what you want about the Yankees and salary (though it gets really tired considering the facts are a plenty that you ca't "buy" championships), in the end the Yankees are playing by the rules of the game. Stealing signs is not. And please don't bring up the PED thing because we already know no one on the team has been caught since it was illegal in baseball, same as the Phils.

Stealing signs is cheating? How about when a pitcher changes speeds to try and fool the batter? Is that cheating too? Is it cheating to spend $80 million more on payroll than the next highest spender? Yankees lose a game and the New York press is whining already.
