The National League-champion Philadelphia Phillies may have a fella playing with a torn muscle in left field. Raul Ibanez(notes) replaced Pat Burrell(notes) in left field in Philadelphia and has quickly won the hearts of Phillies fans this season. Now it's looking like he may have to have off-season surgery, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.
The partially torn muscle is apparently near his abdomen. He supposedly put off surgery in late June and certainly isn't going to have it now until the World Series ends. He claims that he doesn't even think about it when he plays and that he isn't generally bothered by it.
Supposedly Ibanez was given the choice in June to have surgery or to go on the DL and rest before playing with the injury. Before deciding to hold off, Ibanez supposedly went up to Toronto to see a neuromuscular specialist and then visited a surgeon in Philly to get the second- and third-opinion lowdown.

It is great to be a Yankee fan. What a series. Not lacking one bit in excitement. That is real baseball.

The Phillies are a damn good team. They have some thumpers & pretty good pitching. Maybe we should ask old Nastro-darby to ask his fiancee what team she thinks will win. If we can find him that is. 4 & out.

The Angels played tough. They need a couple of pieces and they will be right back in it. Real, the early interview is called a "scoop". Where are all the stimulus jobs? What a joke. Lame Duck after 10 months.

The biggest joke of the century Mark McGwire as a hitting coach. In softball maybe....

I know how different it is when your team is in the World Series vs. being a more casual viewer. When the Red Sox were playing in 2004 and 2007 the Series went exactly the way I wanted it to, even though the lack of competition hurt the ratings quite a bit. Now of course, I want to be entertained with an exciting series.

I won't start in on the home plate umpiring of last night's game. Let's just say it was disappointing and leave it at that. Sports conspiracy theorists will take it from here...
