The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim begin its battle for the American League pennant this evening against the New York Yankees but the team has already started its battle to bring slugging outfielder Bobby Abreu(notes) back.
The rumor is that Abreu is not happy with the initial offer from the team, according to Sports Illustrated. The offer is supposedly for about $16 million over two years. (Who would take that?) Abreu supposedly would like more.
The right fielder is making $5 million this season on the one-year deal he signed after the New York Yankees tossed him aside. Incentives have paid Abreu another million bucks so far this season. His main competitors in the free-agent market will be Matt Holliday(notes) and Jason Bay(notes). But Abreu, who had 30 stolen bags this year, turns 36 in March, which will make some teams skittish on signing any multi-year deal.

Yanks get what ever they wanted because we are willing to spend. Not like your loser team who's probably stingy. I rather want my team to spend then letting all the owners keep all the money.

Abreu should take that deal - agreed..
If the Yanks sign anyone or anything during the off-season it should be Jason Bay and another quality starter..Mauer would be cool, but I just cant see it...
