LHP David Purcey took the loss to drop to 2-5. It was the most impressive outing of his career as the rookie logged his first complete game while not walking a batter and striking out a career-high 11 to tie a Jays record for a rookie pitcher. The lone run off Purcey came in the fourth on a leadoff home run by Tampa 1B Carlos Pena.

Purcey gave up five hits and struck out a career-high 11 in eight innings for his first career complete game, but it came in a losing effort as Toronto fell to Tampa Bay 1-0.
Advice: Despite the loss, this is a good sign for the rookie left-hander. He only permitted a solo home run by Carlos Pena, but that was enough for Matt Garza and the Rays' bullpen. Purcey has been outstanding in two of his last three starts, also tossing six shutout innings and giving up just two hits against Detroit on Aug. 13.
