LF Johnny Damon did the best he could to get the Yankees off to a good start in their crucial series against his former team, but it wasn't enough. Damon led off the first inning against the Red Sox with a home run off the foul pole in right and later added a second home run in a rare multi-homer game, but the Yankees managed little else in their 7-3 loss. |

Damon will move back into the everyday role in center field following the return of Hideki Matsui from the DL on Tuesday, NY Newsday reports. Recommendation: He had a pair of drops in Tuesday's loss to Toronto, but manager Joe Girardi said that he won't blame that on Damon's limited action in center thus far. For now, Brett Gardner will see the biggest reduction in playing time, although alternate lineups where Xavier Nady plays first base, Damon moves to left field and Gardner plays center may also surface. |
