Jeter, Pettitte, Posada appear on ‘Letterman’

NEW YORK (AP)—Andy Pettitte(notes) says on the “Late Show with David Letterman” that winning the World Series is especially gratifying in New York, where missing out on a championship is considered a failure.

Pettitte and Yankees teammates Derek Jeter(notes) and Jorge Posada(notes) appeared on the show Thursday night, a day after capturing the franchise’s 27th title. World Series MVP Hideki Matsui(notes) later joined them on stage, carrying the championship trophy.

Pettitte says he’s close to retirement and that pitching one more season “would probably be good,” because he wants to spend more time with his kids. Jeter jokes Pettitte has been saying that for about six straight years.

too bad a-rod didn't show up so he could bang all the girls on letterman's staff. nice job, yanks, i thought girardi might over-manage them into disaster but congrats, they were the better team, sorry jimmy rollagroundertoshort. on the other side of the ego coin was ryan howard who was not disappointed after losing the series and it showed in his ws batting. couldn't pitch lee on three days rest because it's no time to experiment or over-extend -- that's how you lost hamels after last year's abuse of 2 zillion innings and lidge didn't need to blow a save but he did. just didn't happen for the phils this year so go yanks and i'm still tired of this invincible mariano baloney because they should have won ws 2001. si si sabathia!

These three guys along with Rivera are warriors. Like them or not, they are real competitors that lay it all on the line and do it all for the team. Class acts and if you look at their post season records, they sure aren't the Braves, they win! Hall of Famers all the way!

Hate the Yanks all you want. There are some owners that have the money and go Donald Sterling with it and then complain that they don't have a chance. Would you rather have team that at least tries to win by getting the best players? And, if you were a ball player, what, you don't want to be a Yankee? Right, I'm sure you want to be a National or a Royal.

    27 and counting baby!

#6 ... in case you've never paid attention to baseballe, that's the beauty of the game ... anything can, and often does, happen.

to all those saying negative things about the yankees or phillies ... i thought it was great to see the best two teams in the most important series of the year and i'm happy the better team won. congratulations to the yankees and the phillies.

The Yankees' game-5 loss just made the World Series more fitting to end at the Yankee Stadium, in front of their adoring fans. Had the Yankees completed their rally in that game-5 and won, the incredible heroics of Godzilla Matsui in game-6 could not have happened. In other words, the Yankees' wrapping up the WS was made much sweeter by Matsui.

Japan should declare an official holiday for Matsui this October, say, "Godzilla Day" (lol).

For the past two years the Phillies and Mets have had a war of words between them. Now I know how the Mets fans feel towards Jimmy Rollins. Even after an embarrassing loss, Jimmy still said that the Phillies were the better team. All I have to say to Jimmy is, "you talked a good game but when it came down to performing, you really sucked!!! Had you and Howard actually hit the ball like you meant it, you wouldn't be in this situation."

Cashman built this monster. He deserves to win. People were hard on him.
No matter who lost or won ahead of him-"Big Game" Andy pitched and won game 3.
Not bad for just 10 mil.
Next year we take on the do or die Mets in the Fall Classic.
I like to think, that we helped out our baby brother-and beat up the Philly bully.
Ryan Howard is a great player.

Im glad to see Andy pitch a great game. I never wanted to see him leave the Astros, but that was their fault! Good Job Andy!

You would think Charlie Manuel would learn from Jimmy Rollins mistake. No, he "vows" to take the WS again...yea right. Didn't dissed Pettitte and Riveria as being old...and can be hit against cuz of their age and deterioration of their ability? Guess the manager didn't learn anything...while making the biggest mistake of this year's series,..no pitching Cliff Lee in game 4. You can blame Rollins, or Howard for not producing.....but you can blame Manuel for losing any chance of winning it when he didn't use Lee on 3 days rest. Its laughable that he would go with Lee in game 7 if it came to that. The series was lost in game 4. 5 & 6 was a formality in my opinion.

I never thought coach Joe Torre could be replaced as the Yankee manager to keep most all players focused in the same positive direction, but after two years watching coach Joe Girardi work at the helm, I'm a very happy fan.
