Phils’ Victorino will play despite finger injury
NEW YORK (AP)—All-Star center fielder Shane Victorino(notes) was in Philadelphia’s starting lineup Wednesday night for Game 6 of the World Series despite a finger injury.
“His finger is fine,” Phillies manager Charlie Manuel said before the game. “He already went down and took some swings and picked up a ball and he’s been throwing it, and he showed me that he’s fine. He’s all ready to go, and he’s hitting second. Going to get four or five hits, and he’s going to be fine. Steal five bases.”
Victorino was struck on his right index finger by a fastball from A.J. Burnett(notes) in the first inning of the Phillies’ 8-6 victory over the New York Yankees on Monday night. X-rays were negative, but the injury appeared to bother him throughout that game.
The switch hitter gingerly removed his batting gloves after each at-bat in Game 5 and had trouble gripping the bat and throwing the ball because his finger was swollen.
Victorino went 0 for 3 and was replaced in the eighth inning by Ben Francisco(notes), despite pleading with Manuel to stay in that game.
The Phillies need to win the next two games for their second consecutive title. Victorino hit .292 this season with 10 homers, 62 RBIs and a major league-high 13 triples.

It may not have ended the way that you wanted, but the Phillies gave it their best shot. There will be a lot of what iffing this winter, but the Phillies played well. The biggest difference in the series was Mariana Rivera. He did this year what Lidge did last year.
Have a good winter. Maybe I will catch up with you at CBP next year.

And when he faces Mo's cutter that saws off his bat --I feel for the guy. He'll probably try to bunt his way on.
Utley should not dig in tonite. I hope he sees the ball well as every pitch will be what RonH calls
"chin music"
Just keep the 1-2 hitters off the bases and the Yanks will be drinking champagne
My bottle is on ice--to be opened when Jeter squeezes the final out.

I feel somewhat sorry for Shane. If he hits a single, it could have been a home run. If he goes hitless, he will be blogged as selfish.
Enjoy the game. Have a brew! It is pretty well in the player's hands now.

We don't make excuses. That seems to be a trait of Yankee fans every time they lose. If we win we earn it. If we lose, congratulations to our opponent. No excuses
