Lidge, Ibanez, Eyre scheduled for surgery

PHILADELPHIA (AP)—Phillies closer Brad Lidge(notes) will have surgery on his right elbow on Wednesday.

Lidge is scheduled to have a loose body removed and Dr. Michael Ciccotti also will evaluate his right flexor/pronator tendon.

General manager Ruben Amaro Jr. also announced Saturday night that outfielder Raul Ibanez(notes) and reliever Scott Eyre(notes) will have surgery on Monday. Dr. Bill Meyers will repair Ibanez’s sports hernia and Ciccotti will remove loose bodies from Eyre’s left elbow.

Lidge led the majors with 11 blown saves this season but was better in the playoffs as the Phillies reached the World Series before losing to the Yankees in six games. Ibanez hit a career-high 34 homers in his first season with Philadelphia. Eyre had a 1.50 ERA in 42 games.

Your Braves 5 man rotation would be chewed you and spit out by superior AL offense. Wouldn't even have to be the Yankees.

Better hope Lidge can be fixed with surgery, he sucks, one year wonder.

Stop cryin in your cheesteak breezly bruin it's getting old. You lost.

As I recall Jg, the Rays didn't even make the playoffs this year, and you're mouthing off about about how the Phillies won't be back. Yeah, the sluggers didn't produce in the World Series, but you've got to be in it to win it and the Rays...not so much in it this year.

Let me tell you how it works Ron H. You go out and spend 15+ million a year on players such as Alex Rodriguez and Mark Texiera. Then your pitchers such as Joba Chamberlain, Andy Petite, and A.J. Burnett can post 4+ e.r.a's and still win ball games because of run support. During the regular season you need a 5 man rotation. Yes, of course in the playoffs you cut it to 4 even 3 in the case of NY this postseason, good job good observation. All I'm saying is the Braves, arguabley, have the best 5 man rotation in MLB: Vazquez, Hanson, Jurjens, Hudson, and Lowe. When they get some run support this year (see prospect Jasan Heyward) I believe they will be top contenders in the N.L East and make a run for a W.S ring. That with half the payroll of the NY Yankees.

Atlanta has the best 5 man rotation in baseball, but did not make the playoffs. How does that work?

And the Yankees only needed a three man rotation to beat the N.L Champions. I must be missing something here.

Hey it only cost 200+ million for a World Series ring these days? What a deal I'm gonna go get one. Which free agent will NY sign this year Bay or Holliday? I think either one will fit pretty well into that lineup.Maybe they will sign both $$$$$$ Bling bling. Look for the Atlanta Braves to take the NL east next year and make a run at the championship. Best 5 man rotation in baseball.

Hats off to those warriors named in this article as well as players on both teams who played through all those aches and pains acquired over the course of the long season and first two rounds of the playoffs. That's why they are major leaguers and their teams made it all the way.

Great series, too bad there were some bad calls; against both teams, but thats just part of the game. Always has been and how it should remain. For all those who keep crying for video replay, watch an NFL of CFB televised game and see how many and how long the delays are: utterly ridiculous!

That's ok Dan. We know you became a Phils fan after the parade in Philly last year. Ha ha! At least the Yankee fans you speak of got you beat by over a decade!
Seriously though, stop making excuses for your team. Every team has injuries and payroll doesn't buy a championship. If it did, it wouldn't have taken 9 years for the Yankees to win another one. Get over it. You lost. Give credit where it is due.
Look at it this way: If someone told you before the Series that Howard would break the strikeout record, Victorino and Rollins would hit .200, 3 others would hit below that, Hammels would implode, and Lidge would blow a game, would you have thought they would have won?? Exactly. The team that deserved to win, did. Quit it with the sour grapes. You sound pathetic.

Look some of the star players of the phils needed surgery after the world series and they still almost won against a healthy team with bloated contracts. If the yanks took their payroll and matched the phils payroll the world series would have been a sweep for the phils. The yanks can pick any players they want to get there too but I doubt after the a-rods and the cc's they couldn't field a whole team to play the phils. They would have like 6 or 7 players out there and be at 110 mil.

Maybe next year. Baseball needs a cap at 110 mil. and probably even way lower than that.

Breeze, Burnette and Pedro had the same strike-zone in game 2; unlike game 5 where Burnette's zone was the size of a dime. The Uttley double-play was bang-bang, and impossible to see with the naked eye. The Howard BS double-play in the SAME GAME was obviously a trapped ball and nobody should have been called out on the play. The camera was above the fence. It was a HR if the camera wasnt there. Umps got it right.

Instead of crying like a sissy u should look in ur own house for blame.

Cole "Can't wait for Next Year" Hammels, oops. Jimmi "Big Mouth No Show" Rollins. Oops. Victorino play in centerfield. Oops. Ryan Howard 457 strike outs. Oops. Brad "Shut 'em Down" Lidge. Oops. Who's on third? Oops. Pedro for one more inning. Oops.

Brian, you are a punk. The Phillies made it as far as they did on guile and guts, The Yankees were the ones who got all the calls in the series. In game 2 BJ Burnett couldn't get his curve ball over the plate, yet again and again they were called strikes. The Phillies couldn't hit those pitches with a telephone pole. The Utley double play was missed, and in game 3 the A-Roid HR off the camera wasn't a HR. The camera was over the field of play, hence it was a ground rule double. You give morons a bad name. peace

@ Brian........ Check pal what the Royals records were back in the 80's son. They were one of the better teams back then.Remember a certain 3rd baseman named george Brett???

just because we won Championships NOT againist teams that start with the Letter "Y" doesn't mean those teams were bad. They were better than your team that year. And if I'm not wrong the Royals beat the Newark Spankee's that year to get into the World Series. So that means your team was infearior and sucked.

I don't know who your upset at. You may have daddy issues. Did your daddy leave you alone you piece of trash. Are you a bandwagon NY fan from Fremont, California?

Philadelphia...Win....or ....Lose has more character and passion for our sport teams than most city's will ever know.

You obviously don't realize that the Rays are in the same division as the Red Sox and the Yankees and smoked that division. They were the best team in the AL and we won. That's the world series.

Anyway...I'm done wasting my time on a lowlife gangbanger such as yourself. Go find your daddy and learn something about sports and find loyalty to some team you biatch!!

Andrew the Phillies have two world championship vs two of the biggest jokes of franchises.. the Rays and Royals WOWZERS... the Eagles are not going to the Super Bowl.. for all their NFC Championship choke jobs I'd label the Philadelphia Eagles the Buffalo Bills of this decade... when the Eagles got to the Super Bowl with Terrell Owens ( the man you love to hate) and boo like Santa Claus the Eagles LOST to the Patriots in that Super Bowl. ...The NY Giants get to the Super Bowl and beat a 18-0 Patriots team....LOL that has got to kill you

Eagles ZERO Super Bowl Championships, even the "LA" Raiders have a Super Bowl title.. shoot every team in the NFC East has multiple Super Bowl Championships and the Eagles are stuck on nadda

Phillies will not be back in 2010, without Lee coming in July the Phillies wouldn't of made it this year.. simple facts Phillies rely on umpire help, walks and home runs that won't last

Peace all except Philadelphia.. the city of chokerly love

I'm wondering what happened to my post yesterday to this subject. It suddenly disappeared into the Yahoo abyss. So, here we go again.

I don't see Halliday in this lineup. Someone had posted that they think the Phils would go after him in the free agent market.

I believe I also saw and heard early yesterday that the Phils would let Brett Myers test his worth in free agency. I suspect the tête-à-tête he had with Hamels may have sealed his fate.

I also thought I had read earlier this year, possibly in April, the Scott Eyre was going to retire after this season. He was signed through 2009. I hope I'm wrong.

What a season it was. I have been following the Phillies since 1963, and believe me I seen great teams and great players along the way. I have listen to great announcers Whitey and Harry for all those seasons. I was there when they won it all in 2008 with my son. I will remember that day until i die. This year was a test for all the players from the beginning. This team should be proud of what they were able to do for two years in a row, and that is to compete at level not often seen in Phillies baseball. I wish all the players a great off season of rest and relaxation you have earned it and then some. Thanks for playing the game the way it should be played. Good luck next year and I am sure you all will be back in the WORLD SERIES again. Remember you got to have high hope. Now lets get a Super Bowl for those Eagles before I break on though to the other side. PEACE/LOVE to all.
