Big League Stew - MLB

PHILADELPHIA — It was a fun time being in New York for the World Series, but it's great to be back in the City of Brotherly Love for another October. It's hard to explain, but the feeling is just different. Unlike two-team New York, the Phillies are the only show in town and you can't walk five feet in downtown Philadelphia without seeing red. Almost every hotel and lamp pole wears a Phillies banner and the evening news is packed with every Phillies story you can imagine (and lots of stories that you can't).

Catching up on the World Series news that I missed while traveling down to Philly via Acela Train: Joe Blanton's(notes) going for Philly in Game 4 instead of a short-rested Cliff Lee(notes), the Yankees traveled to Philly on a train and A-Rod reportedly has a picture of himself as a centaur hanging above his bed. You know, all very standard stuff.

We'll have more Big League Stewie goodness — wit wiz, of course — starting on Saturday afternoon and leading up to Game 3 at night. Until then, it's off to experience some Phillies Phever with the godfather of all Phils fans, all while keeping an eye out for this little guy

What's funny is NY has the reputation but you're more likely to get your ass kicked for no reason in the "city of brotherly love."

It was great when the Phillies averaged 18K fans in 2003 during the last season in Veterans Stadium. They were the only game in town then.
Don't even pretend that Philly is a baseball town. It's football and hockey, with the Phillies in third. In fact, you could call Philadelphia "Boston light" in the sense that 80% of the fans probably don't even know that Scott Rolen played 3rd base for them.

Thanks for the props, Duk. The Phils have made living in this city really fun for the last few years.

When you NEED a pro sports team to feel good about your city ... It's time to move!
Just one Asterisk for the Phils * because the Yankees know how to get those * Astersisk * rings.

#1 you're right, although there are way more assults in NY than Philly each year because of the population you are more likely to get attacked in philly. But at least we don't have to spend more than twice the amount of average MLB payrolls to get to the WS!

#7 you see what everyone forgets is that the only big money the Yankees had back in the day was Clemens. Now I don't agree with buying it that is what the Yankees do. If it weren't for us buying everyone you wouldn't be affording your big name players.

NY is a bunch of celebrity / Roid puppets. Play the game, don't buy the umps and your ghetto rappers. Please convince America this is a sport and not a money maker for the NY market.

Reggie Jackson to the Phillies: "The Phillies don't realize they are playing against the Varsity team now".
It's that type of arrogance from typical New York Yankees players and fans that makes everybody else hate the Yankees.
If you show respect, you get respect in return. Thus another reason why very few (outside of Fox commentators) respect the Yankees.
Rude, obnoxious, and arrogant: What are the three prerequisites for being a Yankees fan.
