NEW YORK —  Swing and a whiffa! Big whiffa! Whiff-whiff-whiffaroo!

OK, so this shot is a bit of an optical illusion, actually portraying Alex Rodriguez(notes) fouling off a Cliff Lee(notes) pitch in the top of the fourth inning. But three pitches later, Lee got A-Rod swinging for one of the Yankee star's three strikeouts on an 0-for-4 night. It was the first time that A-Rod went hitless this postseason.

"I don't think we need to think about it too much," A-Rod said after the game. "He dominated our lineup. He probably would have dominated any lineup."

We'll likely wake up on Thursday morning to find that some hyperactive balloonhead has put A-Rod back into the camp of playoff chokers, but that person will be the one deserving of the scarlet letter. Rodriguez may have had the worst night of any Yankee, but he's still having the best postseason of anyone in his clubhouse. He's been carrying New York's offense all October and if there's any reason for Yankee Nation to panic, it comes in the realization that he can't bear the load every single night.

Philly all the way in 4. Cliff lee is the greatest pitcher I have ever seen in my 72 years and not a bad infielder also.
The catch, pop up caught by lee was so nonchalant that i was taken back for a moment in history. can any one remember a similar incident ?

I happened to watch a Mr. Huber interview Angel Cabrera.......Mr. Cabrera ate his lunch. Witty, humble, yet head unbowed. Mr. Huber showed his thinking of an era gone by and hopefully with its haughty ignorance.
Right on Angel you are a gentleman. Mr. Huber still thinks England is in contol in India and other similar fantasies.
    Poor devil.

I think the picture does say it all. Do you see the Gremlins next to A-Rod's head? It seems like he became A-Fraud again and the Gremlins were giving him noogies at the plate.

that picture about sums it up right there. A-roid 3 strikeouts out of 4 at bats. nice game for him. When will people give the phillies a little credit. And yankee fans now you have to pin your hopes on A.j Burnett. Good luck with that

The Bronx Bombers did just that. BOMBED. Hilarious. A-Roid and his buddies sucked big time. Couldn't happen to a wealthier bunch of overpaid players and overspending organization. The whole world hates the Yankees and everyone is rooting for the Phillies, who are the better team. Prepare to K some more in game 4 against Cliff Lee, while CC is forking up homers. Comical.

Brian Cashman got it right. The Phils ARE the best team and baseball and last night, it showed. A brilliant performance by Cliff Lee - a game for the ages. And Chase Utley rising to the occassion and doing what NOBODY has done to the Yankees by going yard twice.....priceless. The Phils just have more heart than any team I've ever seen. They just flat out refuse to be defeated. After waiting my entire life to see the Phillies as world champs, I just might get to see it 2 years in a row. Thank you Phils! It was well worth the wait.

I listen to all the so called baseball experts after the game and they are still picking the Yankees although instead of in 5 they now say in six and I am sure if the Phils win tonight , they will say Yankees in 7, it amazes me how they have all but dismissed the World Champions and yet even with their bloated payroll the Yankees did not even make the playoffs last season and in 2007 were eliminated in the first round. Love is not the only thing money can't buy...........GO PHILLIES!!!!!!!!!

the goat cc for not coming inside on utley, drysdale or gibson would have hit him in the head before giving up the inside of the plate and serving up a homerun ball, put a-rod right next to him, looks like the a-rod of old cannot handle the pressure, lee is good, but not that good, he is beatable, not that the phillies win, the yanks lose for not knowing how to handle a bat

You know what the best sound in the world is? 53,000 Yankee fans who have nothing to cheer about because they're losing! And now today, nary a Yankee to be found on the message board...your silence is golden! Just wait though, IF they do win a game in this series they'll all be on here spouting off about how their bought-and-paid-for team is the best in the world.

Look, for all the emphasis on Lee (and that was an amazing, historic performance last night) the fact was, the Phils didn't even need it. They got to Sabathia from the first inning, putting on baserunners, and rang him up for 6 RUNS! 6 runs starting against the best pitcher not named Mariano on the Yankees' roster! If the Phils average "only" 6 runs a game against the weaker remnants of the Yankees' rotation and their dysfunctional bullpen, Lee can sit out the rest of the Series and the Phils STILL win it all. Giving Lee another start will just guarantee the Phillies lock it up in Five.

Well, we have one Skankee fan on here today, and she happens to be a dumb one! Sue M, give the Phillies some credit. They beat your no class team and city quite handily! You keep hanging onto the Yankees history, because that's all you're going to have for awhile, loser! And if your going to quote stats, it's 2 World Series in 29 years, not 1 in 50 years! Make that 3 in 29 years. GO PHILLIES!!!!!

The A-Rod of old is back? You people know nothing if you are gonna blame the loss on him and to say that he is back to his postseason failures after one game, after one of the best pitching performances in postseason history, is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. It just shows how little you know about baseball. If it wasnt for A-Rod, they wouldnt even be in the World Series.
