Big League Stew - MLB

NEW YORK — The Yankees just held their workout day press conferences in the Great Hall of Yankee Stadium and there wasn't really much to talk about.

There was a little Cliff-CC chatter, a little talk about christening the new place with a World Series and about 300 questions thrown toward Alex Rodriguez(notes) that were all vaguely similar and produced nothing very noteworthy.

The highlights? The two Bronx hoodlums who stood outside the gate screaming "Jeeee-taaaaah! Come out and see your fans!" and the guerrilla reporter from Philadelphia who kept parachuting into each interview pod to aggressively ask about Jimmy Rollins'(notes) prediction of Phils in five.

To their credit, the Yankees smiled like they hadn't heard the question before (a few others had asked) and acted as if they didn't know it was coming. Jorge Posada(notes), though, was able to lace his response with a little bit of irritation and it was fun to watch.

"Nostradamus!" Posada said. "Jimmy Rollins, let him keep predicting."

Then, in response to the eager reporter's followup question: "He's been predicting a lot of things lately. Let's make him fail one."

The overall response to Rollins' prediction on The Jay Leno Show was a lighthearted one and a few said they expected it from a shorstop with a reputation for stirring the NY pot.

"If you guys know Jimmy, you know he loves that," said Mark Teixeira(notes).

Said Mariano Rivera(notes): "That's what he says. (But) what he says and what's going to happen is far from that. Coming from him, I'd expect nothing less."

Wait a minute. Did Mariano mean "expect nothing less" in an insulting way? Had the legendary reliever given the Philly TV reporter something to work with?

"In a good way," Rivera quickly clarified.

Aww, shoot.
