Drafting Mauer ahead of Prior in 2001 looked like a "homer" move designed to put fans in the seats. I thought the Twins greater need was pitching. Twins management have proved to be excellent decision makers for a long time. Working with a small budget does not allow for mistakes like the one that Mark Prior would have been. Go Twins.

Can't predict injuries, Prior, "Prior" to injuries was hands down a top 5 pitcher, twins got lucky but Cubs didn't make a mistake either

Can you at least wait until the pitchers and catchers report until you remind us Cubs fans of past mistakes?

Mauer is playing for his hometown team, no way he signs with the Yankees.. he already said a city like NY wouldn't be a good fit for him.

Mauer and Pujols are proof that "home grown" talent and bringing a player through your system can work.
And Mark Prior? Isn't he selling car insurance somewhere?
He's just proof that Cubs constantly ruin young, strong arms.
I feel for Randy Wells if his future is with the north side.

Difference between Mauer's MVP and yankee's WS ring? Mauer didn't buy his.

If you want to be technical, the Cubs mistake wasn't Prior per se. It was putting Dusty Baker in charge of his workload.

I love mauer and do like the twins organization because I too play hardball and I'm a catcher. However, everyone only trashes the yankees for spending for a show. I would love to see these perennial mvp's have a mvp season while playing in the NY spotlight day in and day out. ONLY a few can do it, so you need to give credit where credit is do. Try playing a season as a yankee and going to play all these teams that have nothing to play for by june. Playing the yankees is the season for those teams. The yankees need to play at a high level everytime they take the field because their opponents do.

todays pitchers are babied so much, its a wonder they don't get injured more. Pitch counts are crazy. Why is it that starters from long ago would throw two hundred pitches in a game and go out on three days rest and do it again and today if they throw 100 pitches they are almost shut down for the season?
