If this leaked image is really the Toronto Blue Jays' new logo for 2012, then consider me officially smitten.
Finally, after almost 10 years of trying to push two versions of a 'roided-up Woody Woodpecker on us, the team is going back to its roots with a serious nod to the franchise's best players and teams.
It's also certainly better than the art deco disaster that the Florida Marlins allegedly floated out on the web earlier this week.
Not that it's official just yet. Though rumors of a redesigned look have been rampant — including red uniforms that would tap into Canadian pride — the team has confirmed nothing.
And though it may look like a straight-up resurrection of the old powder-blue logo, this side-by-side comparison done by Uni Watch's Paul Lukas shows us that it's actually a modern take on the proud and nostalgia-inducing blue jay:

If you ask me, I think it's a good thing they're spinning the design forward with sleeker and faster lines. Its ability to look forward to what the Jays are hoping will be a bright future while still paying homage to a rich and familiar history is what makes it a real winner.
It's also a lot better than whatever Ricky Romero(notes) was suggesting on Wednesday night.
