Windsor Spitfires general manager Warren Rychel confirmed Monday that defenceman Marc Cantin suffered a broken jaw after a downtown altercation early Sunday morning.
The 20-year-old Cantin, who was in town to receive his Memorial Cup ring, was apparently trying to prevent another altercation when he was punched.
X-rays at Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital confirmed the break to Cantin’s jaw. He also suffered a cut to his right eyebrows.
“We’re still gathering information right now and until we know all the details, we can’t really say anything,” Rychel said.
Cantin, who was acquired in January from Belleville, was expected to attend rookie camp with the NHL’s Boston Bruins next month. Rychel did not know how long Cantin would be sidelined with the injury and what, if any, effect it would have on him attending pro camp.
