Scott is another golfer nursing an injury, a broken right little finger, and hopes three weeks off will completely heal the injury. He suffered the break when a friend accidentally slammed a car door on his left hand a few weeks before the U.S. Open. The Aussie was scheduled to play in the AT&T National but withdrew. He did not use the injury as an excuse and said it did not really affect his swing at Torrey Pines, but it might have had something to do with his lackluster 26th-place finish in the second major of the year because he had not been able to practice the way he normally does for a Grand Slam event. Scott said that he was able to play at all simply because he uses an overlapping grip and not the interlocking style. He has been enjoying some time off at his home in Switzerland and has committed to play next week in the Barclays Scottish Open, one week before going to Royal Birkdale for the Open Championship. Scott knows better than anyone that he must improve his putting to become the major player that everyone expects him to be, and to that end he visited the Scotty Cameron Putting Studio in Carlsbad, Calif., while he was in the area before the U.S. Open. Cameron, who is designing a By Adam Scott Putter that is expected to be on the market next year, gave the Aussie a quick tuneup on his putter, but Scott struggled again on the greens of the South Course. |
