Norman pulls out of Australian Open after surgery

SYDNEY (AP)—Greg Norman’s slower-than-expected recovery from shoulder surgery will force him to miss next month’s Australian Open.

Tournament officials said that Norman was advised by his doctors not to play competitive golf again this year following arthroscopic surgery in September.

The Australian Open will be at the New South Wales Golf Club in Sydney from Dec. 3-6. Golf Australia said Norman will also sit out his signature event in Florida, the Shark Shootout, in the week after the Australian Open.

Geoff Ogilvy, Adam Scott and John Daly are entered in the Australian Open, the second of three tournaments on the Australian late-year circuit.

The Australian Masters, featuring Tiger Woods’ first appearance in Australia since the Presidents Cup in 1998, is next week at Kingston Heath in Melbourne

Many people are simply "in love with love" When they learn that an actual walking, talking, thinking human being comes along with the package, it becomes an entanglement and thus a detriment to happiness -- especially if you are not morally well adjusted.

The breakup of his marriage with Chris Evert had to be devastating. Their former spouses both claim that Greg-Chris came at the expense of their marriages. Finally, Greg made it a point to announce to the world that his bond with Chris was so special and strong that to many longtime golf reporters it bordered on the embarrassing. Although the couple have both agreed to not go public for the sake of their families, 99 out of 100 people polled would have to believe that Greg messed up and got caught with his fingers in the cookie jar. This speculation and guilt directed at Greg cannot possibly be easy to shoulder. The separation happened so fast, I have to believe this is affecting him far more than his shoulder.

I'm thinking that Mr. Norman has a little too much on his platter at this time. I say take a rest, let the arm heal, and regroup and set your personal life straight. There is life after GOLF and MARRIAGE -- life it and make the most of it.

Maybe Daly will like Australia and STAY THERE! Maybe come back in 5 or 6 years and try the Seniors Tour, sorry, The Champions Tour. I for one won't miss him.
